For Sale/Trade Tokai TPB-'57 Precision Bass (1957 Reissue)
I'm not sure if I want to sell this yet but I'm putting it out there to see if there's any interest and then ill go from there. It appears to be from the early/Mid '80s but I am not 100% sure of the year. It is a Japanese made knockoff of the Fender '57 Reissue P bass. Tokai made several Knockoff models of Fenders and these knockoff are pretty good! I believe the T in the TPB stands for either Tokai or Tokyo because this model was made for the market in that region. There is also an APB which stands for American Precision Bass. Both the TPB and APB were '57 reissues with similiar specs but I believe the neck profiles are different. According to a 1980's catalog, the APB-57 has the period correct V neck profile. The TPB does not specify the type of neck profile in the catalog I've seen. Mine seems to be a chunky C/oval profle. It is thin at the nut: 1.65" wide. The thickness front to back at 1st fret is about 0.91 and at 12th fret 1.00. Being how neck profiles can sometimes be debatable I can see someone considering this neck a U profile...it is thin widthwise but chunky front to back. Its definately a different feel compared to the wide flat profiles of the Fender AV series. This bass has a nice 2 tone sunburst finish and gold guard. The gold in the guard is a more true gold color unlike the more bronze looking Fender ones. The bass is not mint...has its imperfections and flaws, nicks and scratches etc but is a beauty nonetheless IMHO. Has an amazing blues tone...makes it perfect for blues and classic rock. Has the slighly different then Fender headstock shape but similiar decal font. Will be sold or traded as is. Comes with a non-original hardshell case. I'm still on the fence about selling this but would let it go shipped CONUS for $595 or would accept an even trade for a Tokai APB-'57 (with V profile neck). Color doesn't matter but that's really the only thing I'm interested in for a trade at this time. I will be posting pics very soon.
