I just picked this up in trade. I really like the bass, but it doesn't quite fit the music that I'm playing. I would like to sell it for $1550 shipped.

With the rounds on now and the frets, it is a bit more edgey, but with nylons, you can get a mellower tone. The mag is in a great location. It isn't going to get that single coil Jaco thing---it's fuller and deeper. It has a nice low end and, if you play toward the bridge, sounds 'burpy' but never 'nasaly.' There is a phase button for when the two are mixed. The eq only works for the piezo pickup. It has a sweepable mid and a notch filter. There are alot of sounds that it can get, but most of them are very full and thick. It has great low end.
I hope that helps. I can't really get clips up. I'm not too savy with recording, and I don't think I could get a good representation of the tone. |

It's hard to get a good measurement on the bridge extension because it is rounded, but it is a bit more than 1/4" off the body.

I was hoping the positioning on that would eat up the difference in scale length. That is a really attractive bass and from your description it would fit well in one of my gigs, but I learned the hard way I'm a 34" guy.
Somebody work this sucker! |

Has more of the pseudo acoustic thing going on.
Still a KILLER bass. (and correct me if I'm wrong on my above assumptions).
(Hmm...I could always put my V-Bass system on it though....)

I would say that if you only slap occasionaly throughout the gig, I think it can work--OR if you're looking for a unique slap tone that nobody else has, this might be worth a try. However, it doesn't do the modern slap thing like a Smith or Roscoe. The psuedo upright tone is only when the piezo is solo'd--and really only with nylons. Even then, it is pretty versatile with the preamp. With rounds and the frets, you still get some edge to the tone.
As for the J tone, it certainly can get a nice bridge grindy tone, but, to me, it sounds fuller than that classic single coil tone. The lack of eq on the mag pickup probably takes it out of the super J category, but the cool thing about it is that you can mix the 2 pickups to get a thump AND a bridge tone.
I don't know...maybe you can coax some modern tones out of it if you spent some time tweaking. You can mess with the mid freq on the piezo, and dial it in to taste, then boost the bridge pickup to get some interesting tones. Plus there is a phase switch, so you can mix and match for hours.
If you're on the fence still, send me a PM. Maybe we can work out some kind of trial.
