Shipping boxes

Sign in to disble this ad
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. MODS please move if this isn't the right place.

I'm looking for shipping boxes (preferably two to double box a fender jazz with gig bag). If anyone in the Chicago area has some they can spare, please let me know. I'm getting ready to put a bass up for sale but have run out of boxes. I really want to have the option to ship. thanks

I get all the boxes I need from my local bicycle shop. There's usually a load to choose from as well as assorted bits of packing material, & they need to get rid of the stuff. I've often scored one(or two; I also like to double-box)in just the right size.

I re-Use the ones I get from fellow TBer's.

If need-be, I hit the Guitar Center Dumpster. I used to ASK them if they had a box. They would charge me $10. Then after about the 3rd box I bought, the kid told me he just fished it outta the dumpster, and that I could do the same for Free. So, hopefully I just saved someone $30.00...

For shipping Cab's, U-Haul Wardrobes are the Shizzy!!!

+1 to Guitar Center dumpsters!!! You can actually find some cool sh!t out there too, like keyboard stands, guitar stands - once my buddy even found a hardshell guitar case for an acoustic guitar!

a slightly larger box - if you ask at the register they sell these at GC too but they're $20 - at least that's what they charged me, the guy told me they were on sale

HMMM... Sounds fishy to me. I've acquired many shipping boxes from my local guitar center. MANY MANY MANY and I can't say I've ever been charged.

But to el_mariachi, I would just stop by a guitar center or any other local music store that sells basses and they'll probably have the perfect box for you. To my knowledge, the boxes that are used for shipping bass cases are usually shipped with two or three cases in the box. That would be much deeper and would probably work well.

+1 on guitar center. Also if you go to a UPS, they have golf bag boxes that do the trick too.

What ever box you use, be sure not to use styrofoam peanuts. IME, large bubble wrap does not allow the item to settle during transport. With the peanuts, items always settle to the bottom of the box, subjecting it to potential damage.

Amen. I've always done this. I wish more people did the same.

If you read UPS's Website about shipping material, they will only cover damaged items only if you use foam peanuts, unless they have since changed.

Here's an alternate possibility:
http://www.uline.com/ProductDetail.a...eywords=guitar

This is a site that was mentioned in a previous TB discussion as a source for shipping boxes.

Disclaimer: I'm Not affiliated with Co. / Never used them. So, I can't vouch for the quality of the goods.

Peace.

Send a message via AIM to T-MOST
UPS sells guitar boxes that are tall enough for basses in a case. I Bought and used one 2 months ago. As for double boxing?? Not neccessary. Thats what the case/bag and bubble wrap are for.
