Skjold 34" 5 string Offset '92

Sign in to disble this ad
I have decided to sell my Skjold.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this bass. It is a beautiful instrument, amazing luthiery (is that a word?), great versatile tone, etc. It just doesn't fit me very well. The nut feels a bit wide for me. I know it is pretty standard, but now I know that 45mm (on a basex oc.5) is much more comfortable for me.

Now for the specifics-I took delivery last March, so it is still like new. I have played a few gigs with it, mostly at church-so no beer stains It is an offset '92 body style, 34" scale (his first in a 5er I believe) 48mm at the zero fret, and I think it is 18mm spacing at the bridge. It is a 5 piece maple neck with purple heart stringers. The fingerboard is coccobolo. The body is spanish cedar, with a 5A flamed anigre top. This is a premium top (as described by Pete). You have to see this flame to believe it. To me it looks like one of those 3-d magic puzzles-the more you look at it the deeper and more complex it gets. I tried to take an up close pic, and you can kind of see it, but of course the pic just doesn't do it justice. The finish is amber burst, and is absolutely the best finish I have ever seen. I think it weighs around 9 lbs., but I don't have a scale so don't hold me to that.

The pickups are his C-4 configuration wired in parallel with a blend knob, and sitting big and proud right in the sweet spot. It has the East preamp which is great. It has sweepable mid control, low, high and ultra-high for nice slapping sizzle.

I have more pics up at http://s941.photobucket.com/albums/a...oroger/skjold/

I have a recording you can check out. This was a quick demo, so there are a couple of timing problems in my playing, but this is absolutely the best sounding recording I have ever done. It was recorded direct through a sansamp di in my drummer's basement. Check out Here Comes the Night on the following myspace page:

http://www.myspace.com/junction109

The song just after it-Too Late- was recorded on the same equipment, just with my p bass. I think you can hear the difference.

Pete told me that this bass would cost around $3800 new today. This one is like new and I will ship it CONUS in it's Skjold protec gig bag for $2800. Outside CONUS will pay the extra shipping. I am much more interested in a sale than trade, but you can always run things by me.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Mike

Gee, another awesome Skjold. What a rarity I remember this one from when it was built. Very, very nice. Someone will get a great instrument here...

Hey Mike - beautiful bass. I've been hoping to find a 34" Skjold, or just have one built. But if you find the neck too wide I may be in the same boat. I like narrower spacing. Could you please measure the width of the neck at the nut and at the 24th fret? Thanks

Remember this has a zero fret , so you will want to measure that as it would be where a nut would normally be. The zero fret should be no more than 48mm and it might be closer to 46.5mm. This nut size is pretty standard on most fives + or - 1mm

Thanks Pete. I measured the zero fret as 48 mm. The nut I measured at 50 mm on the end closest to the zero fret. The string spacing at zero fret is 39mm between the B and G strings.

I have a deal in the works. Nothing definite yet, but that is the update.

rms2- I would encourage you to talk to Pete about your preferences. My problem is that I didn't know going in that I prefer a narrower spacing. I am thinking about getting another bass from Pete, and this time I know a lot more.
