Shocking as it may be, I have decided to sell one of my Skjolds. I've been a supporter of Pete's basses ever since I ordered my first one, back in '02, I think it was. He makes some of the best basses I have ever played, and my Skjolds probably get more gig time than any other basses in my collection. But I currently have seven of them, and Pete is going to be delivering another one here in a couple of weeks, so I am trying to make some room. This bass is by no means the lest of my Skjold collection, but the bass it most closely resembles is my original Custom '92, and that one isn't going anywhere!
What we have here is a 5-string Custom Offset '92, made in 2006. The body is sapelle, with a 5A flamed maple top (that Pete says is the finest he's ever seen). It has a 9-piece neck ($100+ upcharge to the original price), and the fingerboard is nicely figured macassar ebony ($250 upcharge). It has matching flamed maple wood pickup covers ($265 upcharge), and a special tinted poly finish ($250 upcharge). It has two SD-1 pickups, and the Deluxe East preamp (vol, 4-position selector switch, passive tone, stacked bass/treble, midrange control with sweepable mids). The passive tone is push/pull for active/passive, and the treble knob can be pulled for an additional "bright" boost. Pete tells me that if you ordered this bass today, the list price on this bass would be $4,545.
I am the second owner, though it is in excellent shape - with two exceptions. The poly finish developed a crack along the joint of the two body halves on the back of the bass, near the bottom. You can see this clearly in one of the pics, below. The only other issue I can find with this bass is what looks like a small spot of "extra" stain just to the right of the truss rod access (this is also shown in the pics, below). Factoring in all of the above, I would like to get $2,500, shipped (within the lower 48), for this bass. A Gator "neo-style" case is included.
Here are the pics:
This mac ebony board is even more impressive in person (as is that 5A flamed maple):
Here is that crack in the poly finish:
And here is that extra bit of stain on the right side of the cutout for the truss rod access:
I would strongly prefer an outright sale, but I suppose I would consider trades.
Thanks for looking!
Tom.

The price in 2006 would have been different, but still at the top of my pricing. As I remember this bass plays very good and it was designed to have so real punch to the notes with a very articulate fingerstyle tone.

I am VERY patient.
ESPECIALLY for that bass.
But this one is nice too! |

Actually, the other piece of the puzzle is that this bass is the most similar to my first Skjold (also a Custom 5), and that one is definitely off the table. So, as nice as this one is, it is the one that I am less attached to. |

Cheers! | The string spacing is, I believe, 18.5mm, and the scale length is 35". I would consider international shipping, if you picked up the shipping/duty fees.
