This is a model that Smith discontinued in 2004 due to high manufacturing costs, but the serial number (see pictures) indicates manufacture in early '06 - perhaps a custom job? I guess you can price out its features as a custom job...

So what you have is your upper-end bolt-on Smith - 5-piece body wings, 5-piece neck, the catalyzed lacquer finish, 18mm spacing, macassar ebony board, 18V three-way pre, and coil taps for each soapbar pickup. It is in close to mint condition - no dings or scratches, some surface swirling and the like, at certain angles and under strong light. A reasonably fresh set of Smith nickel-wound strings is on board, and the Smith case, which is sturdy beyond all others, is also excellent.
The real kicker is the wood, and the lovely sound this bass produces. The main body pieces look to be bubinga, the tone block is koa, and the body core is walnut. The sound is incredible - all the usual Smith honk and attitude, but extra tonal range via the taps, and the body woods create a deep rich sound, the likes of which I've never heard from any other multi-laminate bass. OTOH, the bolt-on also contributes punch.
if it's so good, then why am I selling it? Simple...I am "Joebone," and I am again playing trombone, and don't feel right having this expensive an axe on the premises as I decrease my bass time. This belongs with a serious player, or perhaps a collector (Per his website, Smith no longer has bubinga or koa in stock).
Asking $3150, shipped CONUS.
Sorry, no interest in trades... unless you have a Fender American Deluxe Precision with rosewood board, in which case I'd consider a cash/trade deal.
