SOLD!!! Ibanez SR506 fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had this bass for several months, and I have learned two things.. I still love playing fretless... and playing a 6 string isn't any more difficult than playing a 5 string.

This bass originally belonged to birdxofxprey. I have taken the liberty of stealing some of this straight the following from his previous thread!!

I am the original owner of this bass, it was purchased this past June. I immediately had it defretted by a person who did an absolutely superb job, as you can see by the cloe-up photos of the fingerboard.

The defretting process for this bass was very successful. The fretlines were filled in with Varathane Wood Filler. Varathane is a non-acetone filler that dries completely, conforms to surfaces perfectly, and is very hard and durable. It comes in a variety of colors, mahogany was used on this bass to match the mahogany body. The lines are slightly lighter in color than the rosewood board. So, you can see the lines while playing, but they are nearly invisible to others.

I had the bass strung with Rotosound Monel Flatwound strings after it was defretted. I briefly put the factory stock roundwound Elixirs on, but they weren't on long enough to mark the board - as you can see by the up-close pictures below. The Monel flats are nearly brand new, and I'll include the Elixirs with this bass if anyone wants them.

Ibanez SR506
serial number C 06022904
mahogany body
5 piece wenge/bubinga bolt on neck
2 Bartolini MK1 pickups
3 way Bartolini preamp

Since I have had the bass, I put the Elixers back on. I will iniclude the flats that were on the bass when I got it. I have played the bass at church where it usually gets one or two songs played on it every Sunday for one month.. then I'm off a month. (we have two bands, we rotate every month). The bass is still in great shape, it feels great, and sounds even better.

I am selling because... 1) I enjoyed playing this bass so much, I am having Pete Skjold build me a killer spalted top 6 string fretless....2) I recently went on a bass buying spree, and now that I'm broke.. I need some money, so I have to get rid of a lot of stuff.. stuff I wish I could keep, but can't.

This bass is already packed up and ready to ship. I thought I had it sold, but it didn't happen.

$435.00 shipped inside the 48 states.

I'm really not looking for trades. But I might be open to nice rack mount preamps...I really don't need any more basses.

man, i really miss this bass.

i just don't have the hands for a 6er.

this bass is absolutely wonderful!

it should be noted that the elixir nanoweb strings leave virtually no wear of any kind on a fretless bass. the board on this baby is very very clean.

good luck with this sale. whoever ends up with this bass will be quite fortunate indeed.

Bump. I had the pleasure of playin on this bass, and the wenge neck and bartolini EQ makes for some nice warm MWAH. That, and if you've never tried this model of Ibanez, the Bstring is as solid as my Sadowsky. No joke, the pitch clarity and feel of the B was astounding. I also owned a fretted version of this exact bass and would've kept it had it not been that I greatly prefer 19mm spacing. Good luck man.
