SOLD: Peavey T-40 1979 Black n' Maple

SOLD: $175 Paypal shipped CONUSA USPS Parcel Post takes this 1979 Peavey T-40. I will ship in a well worn but thickly padded gig bag. The gig bag has been repaired with Gorilla tape and is functional but not considered in the overall price.

The bass has 32 years of natural "relic" wear. The neck and body have a myriad of scuffs, scratches, and small chips. It still plays well and looks like a tank. I bought it from another TBer to cure my T-40 GAS. I'm now cured as I find that I prefer the Foundation series basses (I have 3).

As received from the previous owner it had an oddball temporary tuner on the G-string. The mounting hole for the oddball tuner is almost invisible now that it has been replaced with a T-40 tuner I bought from another TBer.

As received, the pickguard was the most wavy & warped thing I had ever seen. It was also being held down with two extra screws. I successfully removed the waves/warpage by heating the pickguard to 200 degrees and then placing it between to sheets of heavy glass. It came out really flat. The problem was that while it baked... it also shrunk and would no longer fit. So, I sectioned it to salvage the piece that holds the controls. New pickguards start at $29.99 shipped on eBay.

As you can see it has 3 original knobs and one of the pickup rings is cracked.

The final concern that needs to be addressed is a crack below the E-tuner mounting hole. If you look at the photo you will see that the crack has not migrated to the other side of the hole. I planned to have the crack repaired but lost interest in this project after acquiring a Millennium 5 and a Foundation 4.

The bass plays well and sounds good. The action is currently set at about 3/32" at the 12th fret. All of the switches, knobs and controls function as designed. Some of the pots are slightly scratchy when rotated. The truss rod functions properly and allows full adjustment of neck relief.

This would be a good starting point for someone with the time and inclination to customize a T-40.

Please PM me with your email if you would like any hi-res detail pictures.
