Exclamation SOLD (What Have I Done?)!!! LeCompte ST-5 Serial #6 MUST SEE PICS

Sign in to disble this ad
Sold to NickyBass!!!!!!!! At least we agreed to me having first right of refusal if he ever goes to sell....

OK, so I'm selling my baby as I just bought an F-Bass (and also owe tax $ this year).

LeCompte ST-5 electric bass, serial #6.
Handmade in the USA.
Features
• Two piece ash body
• Walnut top w/ flush inlayed spalted elm faux pickguard
• Three piece ash and maple neck
• Dual action truss rod
• Macassar ebony fingerboard
• Medium jumbo frets
• Bone nut, 1 7/8 inches wide
• Gotoh tuners
• ABM bridge, 18mm spacing
• Chrome metal knobs
• Bartolini 72M55C soapbar pickups
• Aguilar OBP-2 pre-amp w/coil splitter switches
• Treble and bass stacked knob, blend knob , volume knob with passive switch (pull the volume knob for passive)
• Spalted elm and walnut pickup covers
• Separate battery box
• Body finish - hand rubbed catalyzed lacquer
• Neck finish - satin polyurethane finish
• 35" scale length

The bass is in AWESOME shape (9.5 out of 10). No buckle rash, etc. I'm really going to nitt-pick here so here it goes. The only marks on it is a slight nick in the walnut (1/8" x 1/32") in between the pickups and there was a little gouge on the inside of the upper horn that has been professionally repaired by local famed luthier John Thurston former owner and master luthier of KT Guitars (made guitars and basses in the 70's and 80's that gave any Alembic a good run for thier money). You really can hardly tell that there was a gouge there unless you REALLY, REALLY look for it and it was not big at all to begin with (I am just very anal about my basses).

One of the pickup covers has a few light marks on it from when I occasionally use a pick but I had Bud LeCompte make me a new one that I've just been holding (it's never been installed).

Again, I'm REALLY nitt-picking here as the bass is a solid 9.5 out of 10, but make sure that I always disclose all. It plays like a DREAM. Super low action, NO fret buzz, the bart soapbars and pre-amp are amazing. Bud REALLY took his time on this bass and it shows. Yes, it's that nice. As good as ANY boutique bass I've seen or played. I currently have Ken Smith Bass Burners on it (nickle rounds) that seem to suite the bass very well.

The bass has a slightly darker in finish in person. Bud took the first several pics below in high-natural light. The last picture is what the bass looks most like in terms of finish color in most lighting conditions. A steal @ $1500 (it would cost you A LOT more to have one built now)... UPDATE: Make me a REASONABLE offer!

The fit, finish and attention to detail on Buds basses are second to none. The fretboard and playability of mine is pure heaven. If you ever see my Black/Pinstriped STSS-5 for sale, call the cops, someone has either stolen it or has a gun to my head Don't let Quads feedback rating fool you, he's pretty good to deal with

Guys puuulease don't make me Ebay this bass. It's FAR too nice for the masses and truly deserves to stay here. If you make me a REASONABLE offer, I'll consider it.

man, that is a great looking bass. if i wasnt trying to save in the hopes of 'the right' fretless would show up, this would have me pretty tempted. (and its damn hard to hold out when so many cool basses keep showing up for sale here!)

im curious though, what does that bass sound like and what is that neck like? i've never heard of ash being used on a neck.

The bass sounds amazing. The combo of the big Bart soapbars and the Aguilar pre is it! I had a Bart pre in it before, but I had Bud (LeCompte) replace it with an Aguilar and what a difference. More definition. The Bart pre was almost muddy compared with the Aggie pre.

As for the neck. Man, it feels sooo solid. The vibrations jsut resonate through the neck and body so strongly. All I can say is, it works! I've heald on to this bass longer than any other in recent years because of all of this. This has beat many Zons, Pedullas and others that have passed through my hands. I just feel like I need a change and am FINALLY ready to let this one go (and it's VERY hard for me to do).

That is just a stellar looking bass, lots of touches that you wouldnt get on other basses, I really like the pickup covers and the false pickguard. Its a pleasure just looking at it.

You should put under the bed or in the back of the closet and forget about it. It's SN#6 for crying out loud. Pull it out in 10 years and we'll all reminicse.
