What's the back wood? Can you describe the tone as compaired to the maple?

Spector NS-5XL

The tone is a lot thicker and warmer than the Maple IMHO...The bass has an amazing sound and plays like silk....For the money and overall sound and bass, you can't beat it... I've not seen a new one for less than 5000.00...There is one almost identical on Ebay for 5299.00....here are the specs:

This Limited Edition Bass has 3-ply maple thru-body neck with graphite stiffening and a heavy-duty truss rod. 35" scale. Its rosewood fretboard is decorated with Spector's abalone crown inlays. Dual USA EMG-40DC humbuckers and an 18V 3-band active EQ preamp give it power and tonal range. Its black walnut body is topped with 75- to 100-year-old water-cured redwood bur. The burl is cut from trunks that have been submerged in water and naturally cured in the manner of violin woods.

* Limited edition NS-5XL 5-string bass
* Topped with rare, exotic water-cured redwood burl
* 3-piece maple neck-thru construction
* Black walnut body wings
* Rosewood fretboard
* Spector crown abalone fretboard inlays
* 35" scale
* 2 EMG-40DC humbuckers
* 18V preamp
* Gloss finish
* Gold-plated hardware

Spector NS-5XL 5-String Bass Guitar
The Spector Limited Edition Redwood Burl NS-5XL is crafted with 75-to-100 year-old, water-cured redwood burl. The redwood burl rests on a platform of Spector's legendary hand-selected, premium exotic woods: maple for the neck and black walnut for the body wings. Water-cured redwood is harvested from the stumps of redwood trees cut down 75-100 years ago that fell into streams. These trunks were submerged in water the entire time, which washed all the resins out of the wood and replaced them with dissolved minerals. This natural mineral enrichment process is what gives the wood its unique color and density. This natural water curing is very similar to the method that has been used for curing violin woods in Europe for hundreds of years.

The Spector NS-5XL 5 string bass guitar is constructed with 3-ply maple neck-thru construction with graphite stiffening rods and a heavy-duty truss rod. It has a 34" scale rosewood fretboard with Spector's abalone crown inlays, dual USA EMG-40DC humbuckers, an 18V 3-band active EQ preamp, premium gold-plated hardware, and a gloss finish.

Spector NS-5XL 5-String Bass Includes:
hardshell case.

Thanks for inquiring!
