New Asking Price = $275 - SOLD!
I’ve got this nice 4-string Squier, plus bonus parts, but I find that I’m mainly playing my 5-string Ibanez. Here’s what’s on offer:
1) Squier P/J (recent vintage, nice, clean, white) ($279 new)
Upgraded with parts I had from a very old Frankenbass, plus some new pieces:
a) Bartolini pickups (roughly $120 new)
b) Schaller bridge (roughly $70 new)
c) Copper shielding in the cavity, so it is dead quiet.
There’s a lot of love in this instrument. It’s nothing fabulous, obviously, but the upgraded bridge and pickups make a big difference. It sounds and plays great.
And as if that wasn’t enough, consider the following Bonus Items:
2) Fretless Squier P-bass neck (older vintage), with Schaller tuners, but no string tree. I picked this neck up on eBay for $15. It’s a good (but amateur) defretting job – nice and smooth, perfectly functional, but not picture perfect. It will mmwwwaaahhh nicely – no worries about that. So you can switch out the neck and convert the bass to fretless, just like that. Works best with a tiny shim (like a piece of paper folder in half) to help stabilize it –so it’s a good fit.
3) Original Squier pickups and bridge…
4) Fender gig-bag with torn pocket (the kind they throw in for free at Guitar Center if you buy something…)
5) An extra set of flatwound strings (GHS, I think).
So you can experiment: frets or not, roundwound or flatwound, etc.
All this for the bargain price of $275 OBO, shipped CONUS, UPS Ground. No trades, Paypal preferred. I would prefer to ship this with the neck(s) removed, if that’s OK. Easier to find a box, cheaper, safer. If you want it shipped with the neck on, I’ll have to buy a box, so that would add to the cost.
Here are two photos -- I will try to upload more in a separate post.
