Update: Price drop to $1350 shipped
Not an easy decision to put this one up for sale and I may end up pulling it down, but for now I'm making it available.
This is a 2007 custom Stambaugh designed to be a boutique take on an updated Guild B-302 with modern improvements (better ergonomics, more contoured body, extended horn to elminate neck dive, great electronics package etc) while keeping the overall vibe.
I'm not really looking for trades and am offering this bass for
$1450 $1350 shipped. Ordered new from Chris it was $2075 and a year long wait.
Here are the specs for this bass:
34" scale and 7.6 lbs
Mahogany body
Walnut top with maple inlaid "pickguard"
Bolt-on Maple/bubinga neck
Body & neck finished with tung oil for an fast, slick feel
Pau Ferro fingerboard
Hipshot hardware (Type A bridge, ultralite tuners, D-tuner on the E)
Nordstrand Fat Stacks (with coil split)
Audere 3ZB pre (vol/blend/bass/mid/treble and switches for mids and Z-mode)
Second set of pickup covers (maple & walnut) to mix & match
TKL Hardshell case
This bass has an incredibly smooth vibe when set flat. Putting the mid selector at 800 Hz and pumping the mids a bit gives a classic growly jazz bass tone.
The neck is slim and incredibly fast and the bass is lightweight and well balanced. I've always maintained that Chris' fretwork, neck joints and overall luthiery is as good as anyone in the business. And his necks are the most solid I've ever come across. I've never had to make adjustments to the truss rod of either bass except when changing to strings of a dramatically different tension. All in all a wonderful instrument and I already know I'm going to miss it.
UPDATE: More pictures added. I was so pleased with this bass that I had Chris build a matching fretless (not for sale) that you can see along with it.
