STEINBERGER XL-5W ('wide 5') 5-STRING FOR SALE LONDON UK - RARE!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all

This is 'double posted' in European and International For Sale.

Offered for sale is my carbon graphite composite Steinberger XL-5W ('wide 5') bass. As many of you will know, these are incredibly rare, as they only made about 50 of them. There are some 5-string versions of the X-2 and XL-2 out there, which were basically standard width 4-string necks with head and bridge conversions to somehow cram the 5th string on, resulting in a very narrow string spacing, but the XL-5W was built as a 5-string, and therefore has a very comfortable 17mm spacing.

The previous owner rescued it from a shop in the States, and had work done at Peekamoose in New York to make it beautifully playable. Cosmetically, it's in good condition, but not immaculate, and as such could be said to be primarily a player's instrument, although still extremely collectable.

Included in the sale is a second unused bridge, the original pickups and circuitry (a more recent EMG preamp and pickups are currently fitted), brass and aluminium string adapters for non-double ball end strings, a fitted flight case, a Ritter gig bag, and the original pivoting strap plate. It currently has an adapted NS Steinberger Boomerang strap system fitted, but this can be removed with an allen key, and the original plate refitted in seconds.

Additional info and more detailed pictures available on request to genuinely interested parties. Offers invited in excess of 6,000 UKP (9500 USD).

It's a very nice instrument you have listed for sale here - yes, they are very rare and sought after, but it looks like you're listing the bass as an auction, looking for bids. I believe this is not allowed on TB - you need to list a firm selling price, not take bids for the highest offer - it states this in the rules.

Good luck with the sale in any case.

Post an actual selling price, please, or the thread will be deleted.

I think it's a British thing. Real estate is listed as "offers in excess of" instead of our American selling price.

Good luck with that.

I take your point, gentlemen, and thanks for making me aware of it. As another post remarked, with a rarity such as the XL-5W, that's how we would do it in Britain! In that case, $10,000 firm.

It's only a $9500 bass if it's worth that to you, of course... to the uninitiated, it might just be a mighty expensive plank of graphite... :-)

Steinie

There's only one thing rarer that an XL-5W (a beautiful bass)..... that would be someone who'll pay $10K for one. Best of luck with the sale.

If you think the price is high, it's only proportional to my unwillingness to sell it. Unfortunately I can't afford to own it either.

TB Rule -- " Q: What if someone’s asking price is too high? Ans:.... do NOT question a seller's price in a For Sale thread. "

Adding something like "best of luck on your sale" on one's post hardly masks the real intent which is questioning the seller's asking price.

If you don't like his/her price, why not just move on?
