Steinberger XM-25A

5 string narrow (low B) - active electronics

Black with white binding

Delivered in January of 1989

If you're unfamiliar with the Steinberger variants, this is a traditional double cutaway wooden body with a headless bolt-on composite neck. Steinberger's original 5 strings were made with the same neck as their four strings so the spacing is narrow. There was a wide model later but this isn't it.

I'm the original owner - ordered new from Steinberger in late 1988. Never gigged, non-smoking home. Two blemishes detailed in the pictures - a small scratch on the side of the neck around the third fret and a very small indentation about the size of a Bic pen point on the lower bout just below the cutaway. FWIW, the camera flash makes the scratch look worse than it does in person.

This bass comes with all the papers from the factory and the top part of the warranty card which I sent in in '89. (Sorry, I put the Steinberger decal that came with it on my VW Bus and that car is long gone.) It will be shipped in the Steinberger gig bag that it came in and in the original shipping box.

I'm relatively new to TalkBass and not much of a poster but you can check my eBay feedback both buying and selling (I'm corsa1 there - corsa was taken). Also you can PM me for my full contact info and particulars if you like.

SOLD $2000.00

Looking for cash but may consider trade for a vintage Jazz or modern Jazz style bass of similar value.

Hi Corsa,

Ahh, my first love was a Steinberger and they still hold a special place in my heart even now.

Can you tell me what the string spacing is, how the frets are, and describe the action? I'm curious as to what the neck does with the increased tension.

Best regards,

Eric

String spacing is 13.5 mm.

If I've measured properly, relief at the 8th fret is roughly .610 mm

The frets are in excellent condition. None are raised and there are no sharp edges running your hand along either side of the neck. There appears to have been no movement since new.

I know you didn't ask, but the bathroom scale shows 9.6 pounds.

Thanks for looking.
