As someone recently called it - a Japanese Fodera.
This is an STR 6 string, hand made in Nagano, Japan. Build quality is through the roof, and this bass has the *best* string to string balance of any 6 string I've owned.
Spalted maple over alder, custom wound pickups, with a Bartolini preamp. Switchable mids and active/passive switch.
This bass new runs 550000 yen which is around 6,000 with the exchange rate. I'm selling for $2275, shipped.
I will post more pictures later, but here are two:

| | | | I just moved on my STR LS459, people just don't realize how well built these basses actually are, they're absolute perfection to the finest level of detail. Very very impressive basses but sadly very underrated. I think if it had a made in US label on it it would sell for twice as much.
The person who bought mine is over the moon !!!!
Goodluck !!!! |

Definitely interested, but I'm not familiar with the "STR sound". Some other TBers have characterized the sound as modern jazz-ish (e.g. Sadowsky, Nordy) -- any color commentary would be helpful.
Many thanks,

Weight is less than my LEJ 6/24, slightly more than my Fender FMT 5
34" scale and I believe 18.5mm spacing.
I would not compare the sound of this to a jazz - it's dual humbucker, not single coil. Tone is...well, yeah, more like the Foderas I've heard....The clips on my myspace are not this bass.
more pics and info later!

I have owned a couple of them and they deliver a warm vintage tone with great complexity and their build quality is second to none. A Japanese Fodera is a great description. Had I not concluded that I was a Jazz Bass player at heart I'd probably still have them. |

I've included pictures off all the 'warts' I could find. Beginning with the only mark on the face, it appears to be an errant screw hole. Very hard to see unless you know it's there....
smaller dings
Weight of the bass is 10lbs, using the bathroom scale method - WAY lighter than my John Patitucci bass. String spacing is 18.5mm - very comfortable for both slapping and fingerstyle.

I'm pretty sure it's a rosewood board. The width at the nut is 2.25". The controls are Vol, Blend, Tone, Bass, Mid, Treb. The switches are Active/Passive and mid freq select (400/800 hz, I believe).
