STR LS648 Custom 6-String - Exotic Kurogaki Top, 34" Scale/18mm, NAMM Show Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD!!!

STR basses are handmade by Satoru Yatsuzuka in Japan; no CNC machines of any kind are used. If you do a search on STR basses here on Talkbass, you'll find that everyone that has ever touched one raves about the build quality and tone. These basses sell new for around $3500. Website link: STR Guitars

This is a LS648 Custom 6-string with beautiful Kurogaki Wood top, ash back, 3-piece maple neck w/maple board, Single Coil Jazz pickups and 3-band preamp. 34" scale, 18mm spacing. Made for the Winter 2008 NAMM show (pics here: http://www.deviser.co.jp/modules/str...?content_id=62) One of the sweetest 6-strings I've ever played, but I'm just not a 6-string kind of guy. If you look closely you can see the attention to detail - the inlays on the board are filled brass rings and the volute/ebony cap on the back is stunning. The bass is in excellent shape with just minor surface level scratches and tiny nicks on the body edges - largest wear spot is right on the top of the headstock as shown below.

Specs:
Body: Ash back, Kurogaki maple top
Neck: 3-piece Maple w/Maple Fingerboard
Scale length: 34"
Frets: 24
Pickups: STR Customwound Single Coil Jazz
Preamp: Aguilar OPB-3 18V
Controls: Volume, Blend, Treble, Mid, Bass, Midrange Freq Switch
Weight: 9.7 lbs

Selling for $1800 shipped in the US. International shipping is no problem, just PM for quote. Original STR gig bag is included. Will consider trades for boutique 5-string basses (34" scale or 33" scale ONLY).

I've owned one STR, the only reason I didn't keep it is because I'm an idiot. I wish this was a four string so I could take it off your hands.

Bump for a great TB'er and a beautiful STR.

These are VERY nice basses that do normally sell in the $3K to $4K price range. They have a very sweet and warm tone.

One of you should do yourself a favor and try this one out. I bet you'll love it!

Thanks for the testimonials guys. This really is a smokin' bass. If it had one less string, I'd keep it.

I just googled Kurogaki and it came up "black persimmon wood". Some of the images were close in terms of grain.
Just checked the STR website and you're right, it does look like Kurogaki. Will edit the OP. Thanks!

I bought the STR LS 748 (7 String) from the Low End a few months ago and I can't put it down.

It has a clear, even tone across the entire register. It will produce a great slap tone and a mellow finger-style sound.

The bass is as solid as a rock, and yet is lighter than my Fender, Roscoe and Ibanez.

It's great for walking and comping, too.

This is a great price for an outstanding instrument.

+1, I have 2 STR's a LS 648 with Dual Coils and A CS 549 with Single Coils both fantastic instruments, if I had the cash this one would be gone in a heartbeat. Great bass, great price good luck with the sale.
