I just bought this bass and used it for a couple of month until I could get my ESP out to the West Coast, and its been a real surprising player! I bought it off Talkbass, and the original seller said that the bridge pickup was new, but it didn't sound right. Once I got the bass, I realized that they were simply wire out of phase, so once I fixed that, it sounded good as new! I don't know what the bridge pickup is, but it sounds similar to a Mexi Jazz bass pickup; its a bit fatter than I remember SX bridge pickups sounding, at least. It also has a new high-mass bridge.
Anyways, one bass is enough for me right now, so I'd like to pass on this bass. Just set it up with medium-low action, and intonated it; plays great! Looking for $130, which is cheaper than a new Essex pro Jazz ($180), plus its already intonated/set up (which basically none of the SX basses are from the factory)! Will also ship with an unpadded gig bag, from 94117 in San Francisco.
TL;DR - Cheap, solid sounding and good playing backup or starter bass!
