Hi.

I sell a Tobias Basic 5 Pre Gibson #1525 (you can mail Mike Tobias for confirmation)

neck wood : maple/rosewood 5 pieces.
fretboard : rosewood.
Pickups: Tobias (Bartolini).
Electronics : Tobias (Vol/Vol/3 band eq + switch A/P).
body wings : light birdeye maple.

With the original case.

the bass is in very good condition, no scratch.

the sound : naturally very warm and round, the same level all over the neck, perfect for soul and gospell or latin jazz. with the stompbox (i use au Tubefactor for boost/light overdrive), great sound in rock, metal...

few pictures:

the bass is in France and i ship.

1600€ , shipping cost Out.

If you need some informations, i'll try to answer you with the most clearly possible ( with my poor english level )

Beautiful bass! Not to be "that guy", but, technically, it's not "pre-Gibson".

There's more music in the nuance than the notes.

Just FYI, when people say "pre-Gibson" they're not referring to the acquisition date of Tobias. They're talking about production switch-over which came later (as basspro557 is referring to). All people really care about is whether it was built by Mike and his original crew or not.

Given that, this is very definitely a "pre-Gibson" Tobias (and a beautiful piece, as well).

I get it. It's just seems odd to me. I own an early Tobias like this one (slightly older) and I can't refer to it as pre-Gibson, cuz it's really not. I'd use the term "early" Tobias. You say Tomato, I say Tomato....

Gibson did not build it.....that is what is important!

No, it's all good. Most folks use "early Tobias" to refer to the days even before the acquisition. Of course there's no "official" convention on this, but it's generally understood at least.

The thing is, there's not much difference in valuation between "early" and "pre-Gibson" Tobias basses, but there's a pretty large valuation difference between "pre" and "post-Gibson" Tobias basses.

That's what it all really boils down to... again... who built it. That's the bottom line. Just like Greg said.

BTW, if I did the conversion correctly, this bass is currently being sold for under $2300 USD. That seems like a pretty good price to me.
