SOLD Gibson Tobias NT 4 American Black Walnut FS/FT

Sign in to disble this ad
2005 Tobias neck through. Satin finish (not oil) American Black Walnut body wings, flamed maple/purple heart 5 piece neck, color matched Pau Ferro fretboard. I bought it new and put it away. It is an unreal instrument on all levels. Someone will be thrilled with this bass. It comes with original Tobias high quality plush case.
SOLD

Bump for a bass that's pure sex.

This is basically legal prostitution here, folks!

Btw, what are those crazy knobs? Stock, or an upgrade?

I like them

they are Tigerwood. I didn't like the stock chrome ones.

This asymmetrical neck is so so sweet and solid.

No Tobias Love?

This is one of the finest neck through basses I've ever played. If you don't like the price make an offer a new one is $2800.

???

This issue is big in another thread. I don't understand all the hoopla about the dating of Tobias basses. I got 1 in late 79 and 1 in the mid 80s that were great... But this one is the same to me. It's the best profile neck through ever IMHO. It's Mikes design that is the essence of this bass. As far as execution Gibson is quite capable of maintaining the highest quality levels. The proprietary Bart electronics are superb as are all the materials used. I acknowledge old woods and "vintage" sounds are sought after for good reason. But I am offended by the notion that the current Gibson Tobias basses are of any less quality. This is a world class bass by any standards.

Its pretty much amazing how putting out some basses with poor quality control a decade ago can harm a company's reputation. I have owned many Gibson basses and they were all great and none of them had poor build quality. I just bought a Tobias Growler and the build quality is flawless. If I wasn't trying to downsize I would be all over this one. I still might.

Good luck with the sale,

Mike

Dear lord that thing is sexy . I'm relatively new to more high end basses (I'm a little isolated in my neck of the woods), so I have to research the sound that this sucker makes.

I'm speaking to someone about a Warwick NT thumb, if that doesn't pan out in the next day or so then we should talk if its still here

It has a big round punchy sound, very smooth with lot's of burp mwah if desired. But you can really dial in the growl to your liking as well. I mean it's all proprietary Bart electronics. It's a versatile mo fo ya!

The good doctor knows gear, people. If he says this bass is a gem you can believe it. He's a straight-up guy.

More specs

Long shot for me to pull this off, but to help my thinking out....

Is this a 34" or 35" scale bass?

What's the approximate weight?

I've got issues.

I've owned two "pre-Gibson" Tobias basses and this looks just as good. If it was a 5, I would be all over it.

Nice bass, I'm sure it will make someone extremely happy!

But maybe you needn't be so touchy about the serial number, it's not like anyone has any doubts as to whether it's Gibson made or not. It's a fair question for anyone willing to part with hard-earned cash, isn't it?

Cheers,

Jus
