Trade Down: Josh Helms Custom 5

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a great 34" scale custom 5'er built by Josh Helms. Basically in mint/new condition. Just cleaned and polished with Dr. Duck's AxWax.

Very nice Warm & Punchy tone. Plays with ease. Absolutely the easiest 5-string I've had the pleasure to play. B string if fabulous. The pickups are run passive, volume-volume-tone for a wide array of sounds. From a nice Jaco Jazz Bark to a Thick Pick-Heavy Rock. Does Blues and New Metal with ease also.
String spacing can be adjusted up to 19mm with the very nice Hipshot Bridge.
Nut width is a sweet n skinny 1-3/4”.

The body is Alder. It's a great weight for that 4 set gig. 8 pounds even according to my digital scale. Slightly shortened jazz bass shape. I like skinny necks and smaller bodies than traditional stuff.

The top is a really nice figured maple burl with a dark stain.(it came out way better than anticipated)

**The top is hand picked Figured/Burl Maple. The colors you see in the dark is actually like a spalted maple where the colors come from the wood degrading. The minerals in the soils around the roots have colored the wood and changed it to what you see.**

EDIT: The fretboard has a nice wide radius to it, probably a 12" or even a 14" which makes it really easy to play. Easy to fret without any buzz. I've put in a very slight relief, that's the way I like em, but you can go completely flat with the absolute LOWEST action, really! The BACK OF THE NECK is somewhat flat... As in NOT CHUNKY at all. Another reason I love it, the ease of playability.

Josh cut and designed the headstock/neck as you see it. He built, shaped, routed, wired and everything else to complete this bass. It's awesome and I should be asking more... But I need a fast turn-around.

Pickups: Duncan SMB-5A.
Neck: Carvin bolt on with a Pau Ferro/Rosewood? board and natural maple finish. I've added a black truss rod cover since photos.
Bridge: Hipshot A-style.(very adjustable in all directions)
Tuning keys: Carvin C4B premium bass tuners.

"The Seymour Duncan Basslines Alnico Pickup for 5-string Music Man basses is a warmer and more detailed pickup than stock pickups, with a very solid low end. Using Alnico magnets, like originally used on 1976 Sting Ray basses, Seymour Duncan has captured the most popular tones for metal, rock, blues and funk in the Basslines SMB-5A pickup for Music Man 5-string basses."

It also comes with SLB Dunlop straplocks.*

The neck is extremely nice, straight, true and GREAT action/setup. It balances perfectly.

Thanks for looking. You'll love this bass!

Trading Down for at least $350 (or more), plus your 4 or 5 String bass. Preferably another 5'er. What'cha got? Skinny necks plz!!
INCLUDES a minty Roadrunner Hard Case w/Lock & Keys.
Refinancing my mortgage or I would NEVER sell this bass!

Thx Philonius. I think it's a great opportunity for someone to get into a very nice boutique 5er for very little dough...

All PM's answered. Thx everyone. STILL AVAILABLE. This is a great deal if you have a $500-$600 bass lying around that you are not using. Cmon, I know somebody does.
Graphite Neck is a HUGE plus. As I'll most likely be stringing the next bass BEAD.

Will you ell this bass straight-up? If so, how much are you looking to get? I am in the market for a versatile, passive 5-string, and this looks to be the perfect bass for my needs. I have cash and am a willing buyer.

We can discuss details via PM if you prefer.

PM response and offer sent a short while ago.

Doug

PS - That appears to be an ebony fingerboard, which would make sense, since that is what Carvin uses on its 20 and 22-fret neck blanks.

Doug, I am sure, now after looking at the specs and bass, but I never saw ebony with grain, which is why I questioned the board. This has very little grain pattern along the "B" string all the way up the board.

Oh, BTW SOLD to YOU. Thanks. PM responded to.

Thank you, Larry .... payment will be there shortly!

Ebony actually does have a very tight grain; it's just that the grain is difficult to see.

Doug
