Well I over spent my budget and bought a few basses and something has to go. The bass is KILLER. I only want what I bought it for (not counting the additional dollars I put in after the purchase).
Neck is SUPER fast. Action is nice and low. Bass is all original with the small exception of the strap buttons (Schaller). This is the absolute first generation. Things changed on the L2000E shortly after 1981. The bridge color went to black, the poles were changed to allen heads, the headstock soon changed as did the pre-amp. There are very few of these true first gens around with the original feature set.
I also have the original paperwork. The bass shipped to me in a beat up ATA road case. The foam was completely rotted. I'll give you that case if you want it or I can give you a nice HSC (which will also be a LOT lighter than the ATA and functional as the ATA is not functional).
She prob weighs about 10 lbs (I can weigh her later if you wish). Lots of honest wear, dings and checking, but she sounds and plays great. No functional issues. I think that one tuner has a slight bend to it, but it's not severe at all. You can just feel a slight bend when turning it but it's totally functional. I paid $1175 shipped and then bought new strings and did a setup. So I'd like what I have into her $1175 and she's yours. A similar L-2000E just sold on Ebay for $1400ish shipped, so this is priced right.

And it appears that you find that these slotted version sound different tham later versions. I'm curious, can you expain the difference in tone?

They don't really show the body checking or the minor surface wear on that one area of the fretboard (not deep or bad at all). I'll try to take pics of those things just to be sure that everything is disclosed. Link ---> http://s241.photobucket.com/albums/f...9/GL%20L2000E/

I'm curious, can you expain the difference in tone? | The slotted pickups seem very focused on the fundamental of the note, and have a thick low- mid, but are still focused and defined. Imagine a Gibson mudbucker with clarity- that huge, deep foundation that rocks the house- but can still funk out like a mofo. The later MFD's seem more evenly focused in their frequency response- the lows are there, but also a lot of upper mids and harmonics- not a bad thing at all, in fact a very good thing,. but the slots have that crushing bottom end that hits like a runaway 100 ton locomotive.
Now, who's man enough to step up for THAT kind of tone? Great seller, great deal, and a KILLER bass bump!

Non mahogany maple 1-5/8" L2KE
Great seller and local seller
Advice to drool for from El Tookay
Arrrggh!!!
If it's 1-5/8" then you have most certainly brought temptation to my door.
I guess it's time to for me to organize my G&L parts fire sale.

I guess it's time to for me to organize my G&L parts fire sale. | Well I just looked into it and the specs for it are 1 5/8" and the info that came from the seller I bought it from also says this. My memory also confirms this. It's also a thin front to back profile and the finish is worn off the back. All of this makes it a very fast and comfy neck. Again, I'll double check the width this eve, but I'm now 99.9% sure that it's 1 5/8".

The first step is knowing I'm a (gear) addict.
I was just so happy being "done"
My sci-fi pedal board is complete and my mind is free of the clutter of the wheels and deals I would need to pull this off.
Perfect storm.

these Series E basses are tone monsters ,
and this bass is a true piece of history !! Quad , you might want to try lining up the slot
pickup poles all in the same direction ...
Chef alerted me to this , and i noticed a more
even balance of volume and tone across the
board on my old Series E . Quote:
