Tune Japan TBC5 custom

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, I have to admit it. I just have way too many basses! And five of them are Japanese Tunes, including three 5 strings. That's just ridiculous, considering I don't even play 5 string very often.

I really love them all, but I'm going to let this TBC Bass Maniac custom go to clear up some room in the house. It was made to order for me in Japan about 5 years ago, and was built to be very light and comfy: just under 8 pounds on my bathroom scale. It plays perfectly, with very low action and plenty of play in the truss rod. The tone is very punchy and snappy, with outstanding clarity and evenness in every register. You can hear it on this sample track from my CD:

Although I have played this bass on quite a few gigs, it is still in practically new condition. I can't even find a single ding on it. The current list price on the Tune website is 180,000 yen, which would come to about $2195 at the current exchange rate. A more realistic street price would probably be around $1500. I'm asking for $850 with a Tune gig bag, including shipping within the continental U.S. Sorry no trade offers, please. Thanks for looking, and feel free to PM me with any questions.

Scale length? Didn't this style have a 36" scale option?

Thanks for the responses. Standard 34" scale length on this bass. I believe it was the Bullseye model Tunes that had the longer scale.

Other custom touches on this bass are the swamp ash body, Gotoh Res-o-lite hardware, and 24 fret ebony fingerboard (IMO allows a little more comfortable playing room for the right hand than the usual 25 frets).

Hey bud - whats the balance like on this one with a smallish body, plus overall weight and would you consider selling to Australia?
Thanks.

Sah-Weet!

These are so much nicer than the Korean models, and I do love my Korean model just the same. I am sure there are many of us on the fence about this one. Good luck !

It actually balances quite well, better than my Kingbass 5. Somewhat neck heavy when seated (as are almost all 5 strings IME), but on a strap it's super comfortable. The small headstock and lightweight tuners definitely help. Weight is just under 8 pounds.

Thanks again for the interest. It looks like I might have a buyer...

Oh, and yes, if the current prospective buyer doesn't come through, I could ship overseas for the additional cost of shipping.
