Two Lakland US DJs For Sale! I keep one!

Sign in to disble this ad
Up FOR SALE are two US DJs of the discontinued Darryl Jones line. There were only about 50 US DJs made. I'm ONLY SELLING ONE AND THE OTHER STAYS! I'm letting you all decide which I keep by which sells first. I only need one j-style bass... yes, I have a preference as to which I keep, but I'll keep that to myself. Jump on one since these don't come up for sale often, and they'll be even harder to come by in the future!

The first is:
Natural Swamp Ash
Birdseye Maple Board
Ebony Blocks with Black Binding
Black Thumbrest/No pickguard (has screwholes)
Aero Pickups
Passive

Notes: there is no pickguard anymore. A previous owner (Juan Alderete of The Mars Volta) removed it and installed a thump rest between the pickups. He did the same thing on his white skyline. There is some scuffing on top of the headstock and an extra button hole which was used for an x brace strap (?). Amazing sounding and feeling bass. Fastest left hand on this bass.

Second is:
Sonic Blue Swamp Ash
Birdseye Maple Board
Pearl Blocks and White Binding
Humbucking Chi-Sonics
Pearloid Pickguard
Passive currently. Comes with j-retro preamp with factory installed coil tap.

Notes: Custom ordered. I am the original owner. It's seen not even a handful of gigs. If there are scratches, I haven't found them. The color is hard to capture, but the bass looks great under stage lights. It was originally active and has a battery box in back, but I wound up prefering the passive to active... as I tend to anyway.

Both basses come with Lakland's Cream Hardshell case (Really nice!) Let me know any questions.
Prices:
Natural US DJ - $2100
Sonic Blue US DJ - $2500 (at a significant loss)

I imagine the sonic blue originally came with the LH3 active preamp. Is that still available if someone were to choose to return this bass to its original state?

the sonic blue originally came with the j-retro, but with the added coil tap there wasn't enough room for the battery. That's why a battery box was added to the back.

Yes, Juan owned the natural US DJ.

I've received some cash offers and very nice trade offers... either way, one of these basses must sell if one is to be traded. The only thing I would trade for would be a CallowHill J4 - passive or a rosewood board US DJ.

I'm going to take the blue DJ off of the market and close the thread. Maybe I'll be able to find that ever elusive natural/rosewood skyline DJ or a rosewood board US DJ to trade for my natural.

The Natural will remain available. PM me if you're interested.
