Valenti #35 - Now FS!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm gonna try this one more time - finally got up the courage to sell the Valenti outright - asking $1300 shipped, USPS MO only. I would STRONGLY prefer a semi-local sale (SF to LA), as to avoid shipping, and would adjust my asking price accordingly.

EDIT - I'm going to open up my possible trades just a little bit. Prefer maple boards and burst/transparent finishes. + cash as applicable -

American Deluxe Precision (Been reeeally gassing for one of these in a 4 lately)
2008 or later MIA Jazz 4 or 5
American Deluxe Jazz 4 or 5 (4+1 tuner configuration)
Lakland Skyline JO4
Lakland Skyline DJ4
Stingray 4 or 5, single H - Maple board being a must on these!
Aso interested in some sort of PJ, or perhaps a G&L.

I did my best to get back to all who made a cash offer, or who inquired about an outright sale last time around, but I may have missed a few. If so, I apologize.

I am the original owner of this bass, and I've taken good care of it. I'd have to search through some records to be sure, but I believe I received this in early 2007. Aside from the typical finish swirls and superficial scratches found on basses that have been played, there are a few things worth noting -

- A few marks just below the input jack, from what I assume was an overzealous attempt to plug in (pictured).

- What I can only call a "finish smudge" above the input jack. Very small and unnoticeable, and I could not get it to photograph.

- A pencil-tip size ding where the belly contour meets the top edge of the bass. An odd place for a ding, and it's perfectly round and not through the finish. Makes me wonder if it was just a finish imperfection that I never noticed. Also could not get it to photograph.

Otherwise, it is in fantastic shape. It's lightweight (I'm guessing 9 - 9.25 lbs, and I'll weigh it as soon as I can), as are most Valentis, and balances superbly. Action is low w/ no buzzing to my (light-ish) touch, and the satin finish on the neck is the best I've ever encountered. Ships in the TKL soft case that the bass arrived in.

Specs from Nino's website -

Specs:
Swamp Ash Body
BlueBurst Finish
Maple neck with Birdseye Maple Fretboard
1 7/8" @ nut

So, do say, how does that bridge pup sound? I must admit, although a J player, the bridge pup doesnt do much for me.

I used to feel the same way about jazz bridge pups, which is why I spec'd this bass the the Fat Stack. I wanted something thicker-sounding than your typical single-coil, which is how it sounds to my ears - like a single coil, but bigger and thicker.

After owning a Geddy Lee with an Audere pre, I've come to enjoy the sound of a single coil bridge pup solo'd after a few preamp tweaks.

I haven't used Warmoth parts in a few years. Currently I'm using USACG parts and having Wilkins Guitar Finishing do my finishes. This particular bass was finished with Graphite Guitar System finishing.

FYI, a Nordstrand NJ5 can be ordered to fit in the soapbar casing.

As Nino mentioned, this bass was built after the switch to USAGC.

Don't get me wrong, I dig the Fat Stack - I just no longer dislike the bridge single coil solo'd.

This one is very tempting. Cool bass. Trade for a Roscoe Beck V (Shoreline Gold)?

I appreciate the offers, but I'm really only interested in a Fender Jazz right now.

How many frets? and if the tone more "high-fi" than a regular jazz?

22 frets.

I'm not all that great at articulating tones, but I'd say it leans more towards the vintage side than the hi-fi side. As far as I know, the NJ5 is a very "vintage spec" pickup, and I don't think I would call either the FS5 or the Aggie pre "hi-fi".
