Valenti JJ/PJ J5 #067 (audio/vid clips)

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD

Tough times force me to sell my Valenti. Please read entire ad for full disclosure of the condition of this one.

This is a VERY versatile bass with a lot of possibilities. The neck pickup location is routed for either a Jazz setup, or a standard or reverse P setup. Included are 3 different pickguards, one for each setup. The P Pickguards are designed to fit a Nordstrand NP5 pickup(not included).

The bass is currently passive with Nordstrand NJ5 single coil Jazz Pickups. The control layout is a 3 knob setup with Volume/Blend/Tone.

I am the original owner of this bass, and I have played it quite it a bit. This bass is definitely in "player" condition. Nicks,bumps,swirls...you name it, this bass has it. The only cosmetic flaws on the back of the neck are a couple small nicks near the 9th fret. Also, there is a pretty good gouge on the back of the neck near the nut. I never notice either getting it the way of playing.

FULL DISCLOSURE: This bass does have a very strange neck issue. It is a bit difficult to pinpoint, but the upper range of the B and E string has some sort of fret/fingerboard level problem. That range of the bass almost has a "phase" sound to it, acoustic or amplified. I sent the bass to Nino Valenti to have the electronics overhauled a few months ago and to check out the neck. He did some fret leveling in that range and it definitely helped a bit, but it is still there. I have tried many different strings and setups and the issue remains.

It still is very much a playable bass as-is, but someone in a better financial position than I could look deeper into the options of repair/replacement of the neck.

Included is a used but functional Sadowsky labled TKL "soft/hard" case.

Specs:

Alder Body
Black Finish w/Matching Headstock
Maple neck w/Pau Ferro fretboard
34" Scale
1 7/8" @ nut
12" Radius
Graphite Reinforced neck
Nordstrand NJ5 Pickups
3 hole control plate
Tortoise Shell Pickguard for J
Black Pearl Pickguard for Standard P(never installed. plastic still intact)
BWB Pickguard for Reverse P(the most "used" of the guards.)
Chrome Hardware
Hipshot B Style Bridge
19mm String Spacing
Hipshot UltraLite tuning gears

Pics are here:http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i6...75/Valenti067/

I tried to take pics illustrating the true condition of this bass. If there is anything else you would like to see, let me know.

Here is what it looked like new:http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v2...67_P_McDaniel/

Here is a video with the bass in action. Keep in mind, it was loaded with and Nordstrand NP5 at this time:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prbZAEP4seI

Some recorded examples can be found on tracks 1,4,6,8,9 of this album:http://www.last.fm/music/The+Motet/Dig+Deep

Due to the neck issue, I am selling this for $1025 Shipped (US only) OBO Paypal E-Check or postal money order.

You may have thought of this but try lowering the pickups. The magnets in those pickups are very strong. I've had problems with that before with them. I didn't know at the time that lowering them would have helped.

Good luck. Great looking bass.

...I just realized who's bass this was...Very cool man! Good luck with the sale.

Hey man!

I definitely tried lowering the pups. No change. Thanks for the thought, though...

I'm surprised that Nino hasn't been able to come up with a solution for one of his instruments...

I'm sure he could, but not without me spending some money, which I have none of....

Sounds closer to Rosewood to my ears. Maybe a lil' extra bite.

Valenti

I have bass #61 original owner had similar issues, Nino had switched to Callohill for his body and neck was my understanding and in that batch there were some neck issues. Neck had to be refretted , back of neck shaved , no issues since. There is a link if you search

Thanks for the info. I believe that the neck on this one is USACG, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

STOP!!!! This glorious black bastid is coming up to Buffalo! Nino and I will get him right and get DaFunk a flowing.

We *might* just change his skin to a black/purple current with black surround and make it new again.

Yes Sir. I'll take #67, And I'm gonna funk him up but good!

You have been PayPal'd Paul. Thank you sir!

Yep....SOLD to BuffaloBass!

I'm sure this bass will be returned to it's full glory. I wish I had the means to do it myself, but such is life!
