Veillette Mark IV
I am saving up for a CS Jazz, so unfortunately, I have to sell a few basses. This Veillette 5 string fretless has an incredible upright-like tone. See sound clip of Kevin Woods playing below.
34" scale, strung B - G, (E-C would also work).
Piezo pickup in bridge
Made in Woodstock, NY by Joe Veillette and/or Martin Keith.
The fingerboard and bridge/tailpiece are Pau Ferro.
The body is poplar with a maple top, and the neck is maple. "Red Mahogany" refers to the stain color.
The finish is polyurethane.
Martin Keith says - "This is a great deal on one of our 'classic' Mk-IV basses. An equivalent new bass would cost well over $3K."
I am selling it for the same amount that I purchased it for here on TB (which was a steal) $1,400. Pay pal preferred. Here is the original post:
Fender Road Worn Jazz Bass + $600
2012 or higher Fender American Jazz deluxe + $200
High end Jazz bass (Fender custom shop, Sadowsky, etc. + dollars my end
Bump for a great looking bass. If I didn't just get a Deep 5 I would be all over this!
thanks 77P - I can't believe I missed you by a day - what luck! I know you will enjoy that Deep 5 though :)
Man, that is really great playing on that clip.
They're from Woodstock, NY
These basses are pure class. The sheer juicy, fat, tonal complexity that issues from these Veillettes is the most inspiring bass tone I have found in my search for a more acoustic sounding bass guitar. In a little over a week's time I am doing a cushy little jobbing gig with a leader who played on the same stage with Miles Davis and I am going to bring my Veillette 6-string with absolute confidence.
I owned a 34" scale 5-string exactly like this one, same preamp and all. If you want, you can string the 34's with Thomastik jazz flats and they ring very clearly.
Thanks for the compliment, Chef. I have followed many of your threads with great interest.
Cheers to all.
Compared to a Deep 5 (Rob Allen ) you would say....????
Is it just me or the link is off? Beautiful bass none the less.
Sweet end table
Nice tone and great playing on the clip.
I love these. Wanted one from first sight. Nice guys in the Woodstock shop building some great instruments with no frills, just straightahead well thought out quality and great tone. Alas I must watch from the sidelines. GLWTS!
RA vs Mark IV
The Rob Allen MB basses are definitely in the same ballpark as the Veillette Mark IV(now Paris). I have slammed for an hour or so on two different MB's, so I can say for sure that they are similar in sound. The Deep 5 is supposed to have somewhat more wool to the sound compared to the MB series, and I don't doubt that it does.
Both the Mark IV/Paris and the RA MB's have TONS of warm bass and definition and are very worthy instruments, but I haven't been able to play the Deep 5 yet, though.
Thanks for that great response !!!! I am checking my resources as we speak....I had a Rob Allen lined fretless that I sold and regret it to this day....have to talk to the better half before I pull the trigger.!! I will get back with you...If I get the green lite I will need your email address....
