Had this bass in storage for a while, but dug it out and finally got around to fixing it up. This is a Ventura 4-string hollowbody short-scale that was made in Japan by the reknown
Matsumoku factory. Likely built in the late 60's/early 70's. It's in fantastic, near mint condition. The A-string tuning key is a bit bent, but works perfectly. Other then that, just light scratches and some tiny finish necks here and there. I did have to widen the tailpiece slots to fit standard bass strings (the original ones were tapered at the ball end) - a quick dremel job and they're perfect.
Just went over the whole thing top to bottom - new Ken Smith short scale stainless steel roundwounds, tightened all the pots, blew out the interior with compressed air, sprayed the switch and jack, tweaked the neck, etc. Plays and sounds great - the mute is super fun to play with and the stainless strings give the bass some much needed note definition. I have the case that came with it (cheapy chipboard, but likely original).
