Very Rare Nordstrand NJ6 Deluxe Six String F/S - SOLD

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello TB -- up for sale is a very rare six string made by Carey Nordstrand (NJ6 Deluxe). As you may know, these are no longer produced given Carey's enormously successful Nordy line of 4- and 5-strings. SOLD

http://nordstrandguitars.com/in-stock.html#used

Not only aren't these available anymore, but Carey informed me it's one of less than 10 six strings he's ever made! It's been back in Yucaipa for a bit, but I haven't had a chance to promote it for sale until now, so please let me know if you have any questions.

Specs are as follow:
- Northern Ash body
- Figured Myrtle top
- Birdseye Maple fingerboard
- Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups (wired passively, Vol-Blend-Tone)
- 35" Scale

I THINK the weight is in the 9lb+ range, but please don't quote me as I've never weighed it. It is definitely light for a six string, but the guys at the shop could give you an exact weight.

NOTE: as mentioned on the link above, there is a ding on the front arm rest, but I don't have a close up of that if you need to see it (the guys might be able to provide that as well if necessary). It's in immaculate condition besides that, however.

I will say, this is an incredible instrument, and by far the best bass I have ever owned. I had it built with the idea of a Richard Bona vibe (hence the wood choice and passive DC pickups), and it delivers in spades! What I wasn't anticipating was the awesome slap tone with the pickups centered, and VERY convincing P-bass tone out of the neck pickup. Also, as you can see from the additional photos I posted, there is plenty of room in the cavity to add a preamp if you so desire (but IMO Carey's pickups don't need it).

Thanks for reading checking it out!

I also own an NJ-series bass, but it's an NJ5. These are absolutely fine basses. If I played 6's at all, I'd jump on this one.

BUMP for a great bass!

Thanks for the bump dcr!

One thing I forgot to mention in my post...the NJ body style (as I'm sure dcr can attest) has phenomenal ergonomics. Because of the deep body cutaway on the back, the bass feels like it melts into you. Really hard to explain without holding it, but I much preferred this bass to pretty much every other 6er out there.

Ironically, I'm on my way to a gig that this bass would've been perfect for

Yep, I have to agree about the body. It has to be the most ergo-friendly body of anything that I've ever owned -- and I've owned quite a few boutique basses. And on top of that, my NJ5 weighs less than 8 pounds! Can play it all night w/no issues.

If yours had one less string, I'd consider trading my NX5 for it (swpyne -- you're safe).

Easy solution for that...just snip the C string off

Wow! Wish I could afford that! Carey is an amazing craftsman. I love my SC5!

She's a beaut ain't she? I wish Carey still made custom basses...I realize the margins probably don't come near the production stuff, but each of these instruments were really special.

Bump -- several parties interested but no firm offers yet. Note: I've changed the price status to "negotiable", so if this is just out of reach for you, let me know and maybe we can work something out!
