I am offering for sale my Black Vigier Passion Fretless with a metal fingerboard. Features; $1750. More Pics on request
The fingerboard is metal. Thus, board wear from round wound strings is not a worry anymore. It contributes greatly to the brightness and sustain. This board is lined. The lines are cut into the metal. The neck is carbon fiber. I happen to like carbon fiber necks. The neck never moves and is seemingly impervious to weather and climate. This bass has amazing sustain and “Mahwah “which I happen to like and attribute to the combination of the carbon fiber neck and metal board. Vigier no longer makes the pure carbon fiber neck.
I believe the body is alder. The bridge is a brass Schaller mounted on another piece of brass countersunk into the body. More mass and more sustain.
Hipshot Extender Key Schaller machine heads and strap lock.
The electronics consist of two single coil pickups. There is a standard PU switch volume and treble. A very unusual feature of this bass is a sweepable 15-db boost/cut knob that enables a wide variety of tones. I think of it as ranging from Jamerson Pbass punch to Jaco Jazz. Vigier says “Comprised of active electronic circuitry, the Passion TM model features : a master volume, a pickup balance control to mix the level of the pickups, a parametric EQ system with parametric gain switch( off, boost or cut 0dB to 15dB in selected frequency range), a frequency selector ranging from 80 to 5200 Hz, and a tone control. It is powered by two 9 volt batteries with autonomy of approximately 500 playing hours.”
There are a few minor dings but nothing major and nothing penetrating the finish. There are one or two minor corrosion spots on the metal board with no sonic significance. One of the bridge saddles broke and I replaced it with a chrome one. This is not in the picture.
Serial number 59. I purchased it used in 1989.
I am in the San Jose California area. List price was $4346 for the standard model with the metal board but this was a number of years ago.
I prefer US buyers. I know this bass is sought after outside the U.S. and I will consider selling to a qualified non-U.S. buyer but buyer pays for all shipping, packing and customs. Shipping is $60 US, $100 Canada and $290 elsewhere in the world. It comes with case which is in reasonable but not great shape.
