Vintage 1978 Gibson Ripper Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD!!!!!

1978 Gibson Ripper Bass (Built in the Kalamazoo Plant)

- Maple Body
- Ebony Fretboard

- Truss rod works perfectly.
- Neck is straight.
- Frets are in good shape (a bit worn, but still playing great with no dead spots)
- Currently set up with Ken Smith Rock Master Strings 45-105 in Drop C Tuning
- Well used and it shows, but this is a solid bass with no issues!!! (significant buckle-rash on the back is the biggest issue...)

Here's a GREAT resource for information on these basses - The Gibson Ripper L-9S Bass Guitar

Famous users include:

- Gene Simmons of KISS (need I say more... )
- Krist Novoselic of Nirvana (here he is using it on a guest spot on the new Foo Fighters Album - ‪Foo Fighters - Back And Forth - Krist Novoselic plays bass‬‏ - YouTube )

$750 plus shipping

Really not interested in trades right now.

Thanks for Looking,

-John

I haven't weighed it. I'll put it on the bathroom scale later (though the bathroom scale and I are NOT on good terms...). It's not particularly heavy. I'd say it's only slightly heavier than your average P or J. It is Maple, but it's a thin flat body, so it's not as massive as it might look. Much lighter than the T-40's I've held.

Finally a reasonable price! .... and I has no monies
There is one in a local shop for 800 that is in terrible shape and it has guitar humbuckers for the pickups.
This should be gone quick.
