WAL Custom. Mach-1. June '84.
Wal Custom Bass (mach.1) in excellent condition. Completed in June 1984 (signed-off by Ian Waller / ‘Wal’ #2*4*) - the body is constructed of solid Brazilian Mahogany with African Wenge facings (front and back). The finger board is Indian Rosewood with inlaid mop markers. The six-piece laminated neck made of Rock Maple, Hornbeam and Amazonian Hardwood with a 34" scale. The bass is completely original with the standard x2 ‘Wal’ pickups and Wal Volume, Blend plus x2 Tone Control (Filter) pots (with the Vol. Tone & Tone being pull/push - Boost type). For the uninitiated, another unique feature of the Wal bass is the integrated XLR balanced output, which facilitates direct connection to a console or other balanced input. If only the balanced output is used, a plug must be inserted into the 1/4" output in order to activate the electronics. Wal basses are hand made, beautifully constructed and individually unique instruments and the example presented here is no exception - the attention to detail in the design, construction and craftsmanship shows throughout. There is also an original/unusual Wal full flight case, which I assume was made by the same Co. (High Wycombe) who did the standard Wal cases. Weight is 9.5 lbs. There is some minor wear to the top (mainly around the pickups / thumb-resting area/s) but, as seen in the photos, this is well ‘hidden’ by the natural Wenge.
