Wendler is a small one man shop based in KC MO, run by Dave Wendler who used to work at Peavey in the 80's as a quality control and process engineer, and then branched out on his own. His guitars and the MagPi pickup system are pretty well known in guitar world; less so in bass world...
This bass is a very well made piece; ultra light and very resonant, plays out killer with the action slammed and has great fretless growl. Custom body shape, beautiful satin finish; Jazz width neck.
The MagPi system incorporates both magnetic and piezo pickup elements, which are blend-able for tones ranging from "fretless Precision-ish" to "double-bass-ish." Very nice.
Resonant, thinly carved solid Western Red Cedar, exclusive MagPi (magnetic/piezo) dual passive pickup system, and hand carved neck combine to make a very versatile, feedback proof and toneful acoustic/electric fretless bass. Rather than using a hardwood for the double carved body, Wendler use Western red cedar, renowned worldwide for it's sweet mellow tone.. The controls, are very simple - a volume knob is placed at the edge of the pickguard where it can be easily controlled using your pinky finger. A "bias" control lets you favor the tone of the mag pickup or the piezo and find the most pleasing balance between the two. This bias pot allows you to dial in a multitude of unique acoustic and electric guitar tones. Super light at ~6lbs, and very easy to play!
