Westone Genesis - 1987 Matsumoku-made beauty

Sign in to disble this ad
As featured in the February '09 issue of Vintage Guitar, lots of info and specs here: Westone Genesis | Vintage Guitar® magazine

Made in the Matsumoku factory in Japan in 1987, with the high build quality typical of that time and place. Transparent Burgundy finish on a Canadian ash body, three-piece maple neck, graphite nut, rosewood fretboard, 34" scale, 24 frets. The most interesting feature is the "exclusive Genesis stepped body", a 1/4"-deep recessed area on the treble horn that is designed to allow for ease of slapping.

Knobs and strap buttons were replaced by the previous owner, but it's all original otherwise. Other than much of the little gold SLM 65th Anniversary being worn away, it's in good cosmetic condition. Here's the pics:

$320 shipped to the lower 48. Might be interested in trades, my wishlist is as follows: Epiphone Jack Casady bass, Greco T-bird copy, Malekko B:Assmaster, Catalinbread SFT (& maybe other C'bread pedals), MJM Britbender, Devi Ever pedals, bass-friendly vibe/phase/flange (Psilocybe?), various fuzzes, anything vintage and Japanese, or a Korg MicroKorg.

Oooh! I have two of these and they are AMAZING! Top notch basses in terms of build quality, woods, design and tone. Sadly thelast model to come out of the Matsumoku factory. This should go quickly. GLWTS!

Nice bass. I recently picked one up myself. Really a rarity. You should post this over at the westone forum as well.

Really hate to be a fanboy, but this bass was one of the last to go out of the matsumoku factory in japan. I went from a warwick thumb, to this badboy, and couldn't be happier. Somebody snatch this up, before I figure out how to get the funds to pickup a backup

Thanks for all the comments. It's a really nice bass, just not my cup of tea tonally.

I pulled a Westone matsmoku guitar out of the trash on the way home from rehearsal years back. I asked a couple questions about it on a forum and a guy local to me PM'd and offered to buy it site unseen.

$350 cash and he practically RAN away with it giddy and gigglin like a school girl.

Nice bass there, nice price, and I am sure its a real player.

Consider a trade- Ibanez BTB bolt-on? 405QM... 5-string, excellent player, monster sound, just too much scale-length for me, after all.

O.k. Everything about this bass makes me wish it was left handed. The P/MM arrangement and especially the slap cutaway. I've never seen one of those before and I think it's brilliant.

Still available?

I'm interested. This is my first post since signing on in June of 08 so I'm a bit inexperienced.

Bi-monthly bump. I'd love to turn this thing into money for new toys. Offer away!

Oh, and my updated wishlist, since I can't edit the first post anymore:

Infanem Compact Faye Sing or Second Voice; Earthquaker Grand Orbiter or Monarch; Malekko B:Assmaster, HBE Psilocybe, Maestro Stage Phaser, a Pedaltrain-1 HC, Devi Ever pedals, a Greco T-bird copy, various fuzzes, anything vintage and Japanese, or a Korg MicroKorg.
