Weight: 6lbs 1oz (on my postal scale!)

I'm looking to sell (or trade) one of my refinished and modified Wishbasses. (I've currently got 9). From its distinctive hand-shaped body, through neck and open headstock, this bass is designed to be earthy and organic, free from the normal metal (bridge, truss rod) of conventional bass guitars.

I say 'refinished' because a standard Wishbass come with a very basic finish and set-up and I have invested considerable time with this bass to get it into the condition it is today. This has included re-contouring, re-shaping, filling and sanding as well as the final finish itself and adding and additional pick-up, electronics as well as string ferrules, black tuners and strap locks.

A Wishbass like this one, custom ordered would cost you $445 (including shipping) from Wishbass, but of course that wouldn’t include a full refinish, new hardware and additional pick-up!

You probably know a little about Wishbasses, some of the myths and also some of the upside! If you don't then I'd recommend that you do some research before you buy. The Wishbass Club here on Talkbass is a good place to start for information. I have also posted build photos of this refinish at www.davesbassplace.com (click on Refinishing).

Note: this is not a production bass guitar, it is a one-off, hand-made bass; no two Wishbasses are alike!

The body of the bass is Spalted Poplar with some great marking and figure. The five piece, though neck is African Mahogany, Maple and Purpleheart. The fretboard is Jatoba (Brazilian cherry) and has been leveled, radiussed (20”) smoothed, polished and finished with fingerboard oil. It has great grain and figure.

The body has been reshaped, with the additional of a rear ‘belly curve’ and shaved down upper lower bout. The body and neck were stained orange before being sealed and a Tru-Oil hand rubbed finish applied (lots of coats!), polished with a final coat of finishing wax.

The additional pick-up is a EMG Select Jazz. The pick-ups have been wired to be switchable between series and parallel via a push/pull knob on the neck Vol. pot. I’ve used a split pot for the bridge volume and overall tone control. Both cavities are shielded with copper tape and earthed. String through ferrules, Schaller strap-locks, black tuners, a custom made ebony nut and ebony bridge complete the additions to this bass.

I’ve now refinished quite a few Wishbasses. The new owner of this bass will get a great bass without the requirement to devote any time, energy or skill to refinish it themselves. This is the chance to own a really nicely refinished bass and to do so at a great price.

Anyway, I am sure someone is going to love this bass and for sure it will be a conversation starter piece wherever you take it! I've got a diverse range of guitars but my Wishbasses are always the ones people are drawn to first. The great thing about this bass is that it is very useable bass too! It could be a mainstream bass and it certainly plays and sounds like one!

Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Bump because I dread reading your posts. Your rebuilds are amazing and give me the worst GAS. Beautiful work! The finish work is gorgeous. I wish I had money burning a hole in my pocket. Is that why they call them Wishbasses??? Keep up the bass pron.

Folks, Thunderritter is something of a legend in the wishbass club, and although I have never played any of his wishbasses, I have looked that thread over with (occasionally morbid) curiosity a number of times and his wishbasses have little in common with the horror stories most people hear about build quality etc. I mean, the guy owns a couple of Ritters, do you think he'd play a POS bass?

Best of luck on the sale of a very cool bass.

I had the pleasure of playing this particular bass recently, the refinish and playability are top notch! I own four wishbasses myself, I was blown away by how light this one is, and Thunderitter's work is legendary for a reason! Buy with confidence folks.

Not to steal your thread, but when I first joined TB and had never heard of wishbass, I saw a few pics of some of your basses on the WB thread, as well as a couple of other nice ones. I made a comment that I'd probably never be able to afford one! Now I have learned a bit about wishbass since then , but it goes to show what kind of work went into them. From those pics I assumed it was some extremely expensive boutique with the exotic wood etc. Again, good luck.

You brought this one to the GTG, correct? If im not mistaken this one was really light compared to some others. Really great looking. Wish i had gotten to plug it in.

That's the one - very light, weighing in at 1oz over 6lbs.
