XOTIC XJ-1T 5-string

Sign in to disble this ad
PRICE REDUCED TO $1850, PLUS SHIPPING, THROUGH THE WEEKEND. After that, it's ebay.

On offer we have an Xotic XJ-1T bass. It is a 5-string "super jazz bass" that rules...regrettably, I've learned that any full-sized J-style body is not a good fit for me, which is particularly frustrating given the sound and playability of this axe. Otherwise, I'd not be selling this bass!

For pictures: http://gallery.me.com/joebone1

It's a 34" scale, alder body with rosewood board, vintage white body and headstock, with a bright white 3-ply pickguard with an intermediate black layer. It looks great, but sounds even better. Pickups are Lindy Fralin single coils, and the preamp circuit is exceptional. In addition to the three-band preamp, settings are V/V/T, with the T functioning as a vintage tone control in active or passive mode, with passive engaged by pulling up the first V control. Pull up the second V control and you get a humbucking effect across both J pickups, which is a killer sound, but which has regrettably been discontinued in the new round of these basses. Also, there is surprisingly little hum when soloing either pickup, and this bass sounds particularly good with passive settings. Midrange set points and gain on the active stage can be adjusted via set-screwholes in the plastic guard over the electronics in back.

This particular specimen came from a friend who is an Xotic endorser, but not a bassist. It has seen very little play time and is virtually mint. There is also a hardshell case.

The bass is not light, but it really, really has the sound; the enthusiasm of various Xotic endorsers, as evident throughout the Web, is totally justified. This is a great axe!

Asking $2000 NO, NOW $1850!!! plus shipping. Willing to ship abroad if your country will accept a full-sized case and you accept all risk of loss or damage.

Dude, I get an authentication screen when I click on your pix link. Pretty sure you want to post the pictures elsewhere -- might I suggest within this fine thread?

On my digital bathroom scale that does .5 pound increments, I got four readings of 10, one of 10.5, so I'd say somewhere between 10 and 10.5.

BTW, thanks for the trade offers, but I'm really looking for cash on this one, unless you have an old Yamaha BB2000 or BB5000 fretless that you'd like to discuss.

It is, it is!

It has the sound, which is why I took it on even though I know from prior experience that full-sized J-bass bodies don't work for me, as I keep the bass centered, with the neck a bit up, and when sitting I play with a strap and the bass centered between my legs, sort of like a classical guitarist. The big lower-bottom bout of the J-bass does not work well in this context for me, and I end up with my left wrist in a weird place and it's all bad. Which sucks, because this bass has the sound I crave. I even started changing my posture, but decided not to go there after a bit, and am otherwise sticking with P/MM/small J (Sadowsky) bodies.

True! A most rueful sale, indeed.

Xotics are just KILLER basses! Their onboard preamps is one of their many awesome features. I have a candy green Xotic XB-2 6 string bass and it is just simply awesome! If I had $2K to spare, I would gladly be all over this!
