Yamaha BB5000 5 string bass w/ EMG replacement pups and EMG BQS system active preamp. These are classics and the EMG "upgrade" was a typical choice in the 80's. Top of the line Yamaha from the 80's made in Taiwan (early Taiwan is just as good as Japan).
The gold hardware is in great shape for its age: bridge is in fantastic shape; tuners have a little pitting but nothing bad; the pickup surrounds have a little pitting.
Frets are in great shape...no jagged ends and no real fret wear. Nut is in great shape...fretboard is excellent...no nicks in the body through the finish...there are a few small nicks in the body but nothing major. Light belt scratches on the back and light "popping" scratches on the front by the split P pups.
Works wonderfully. Solid, full tone. These are famous for recording and once you get this one in your hands you'll know why. The EMG pups are powerful and articulate. Great control with the BQS preamp. Here is the preamp specs:http://www.emginc.com/content/wiring...G-BQseries.pdf. Strings are Rotosounds and are pretty old, like I like them. The Low B is well defined but don't think it'll be like an MTD Low B. Ask me any questions you like.
Comes with a MIJ hardshell case but the case is not original to the bass.
***PRICE: $575 SHIPPED IN THE CON. USA!***

Reason: price drop
This is not the wide neck version. I suspect this is an early edition when Yamaha transitioned the BB line to Taiwan. Pre Wide Neck. I don't mind the string spacing and that is with me coming from 19mm Fenders and my other Yamaha BB.
Very nice. I love older Yamahas (most Yamahas in general, actually), and think they are VERY underrated. Wish I had the cheddar. Free bump.
I completely agree...Yamahas are typically underrated. This BB5000 is the 4th older BB series bass I've owned and they all have killed! I've had a BB1200, BB2000, BB3000 and this BB5000. All amazing basses and this BB5000 easily hangs with Zon, Sadowsky, Fender CS, Modulus, Tobias, and others. It is an extremely well-built bass w/ tons of tone.
Yep, I had an old BB300 (my first *real* bass), and brielfy owned a BB3000, which I am still bummed I sold. I currently have an RBX765A which I love. Killer bass for the coin, IMO/IME.

The weight feels sub 9lbs. I'll have to weigh it to be sure but it is lighter than my BB1000MA and feels lighter than my old BB2000. Super balance as well!
