Fellow Talkbassers,
For sale is one early eighties Yamaha BB5000. A black beauty with gold hardware, brass nut, and brass pickup rings. Yes, this bass has neck through construction, an ebony fingerboard and Mother of Pearl oval inlays (reminiscent of Alembic!). This bass is extremely well made and is currently set up with low, fast action.
I believe also that this was the first mass produced 5 string (with a low b) available. If you're a long-time player in your 40s to 50s, you wanted one of these really badly when they came out. Especially because of all those keyboard bass parts you had to cop in your cover band!
I bought this bass about a year ago from a fellow Talkbasser and it's been great fun but it's time to thin the herd. The only modification I did was have the V-T-pickup selector layout changed to V-V-T. I will include the original pickup selector switch should someone want to change it back.
I'm asking what I paid which is $500 shipped to the lower 48. At that price, even in this economy, it's an affordable luxury. Here's a way to get legitimate 5 string P Bass tone for way, way, less than one of the new Fenders. Yes, the spacing is narrow, but I found it pretty easy to get used to and it may even be an advantage to someone with smaller hands and or a pick player.
One last thing, this is not a fire sale, I don't need to get rid of it, so please no low-ball offers. Thanks!
