The body is two pieces of ash. The neck is a 3-piece maple with a rosewood fretboard. The fretwork is pretty clean. Yamaha's quality control is one of the best in the industry. The neck is held on by six bolts
The electronics are active. The bass has two Yamaha soapbar pickups with a master volume, pickup pan, bass and treble boost/cut, and a 3-way midrange switch. as the Jhon patitucce 1..The inner curcuitry in the cavity of the bass allow one to adjust the overall output of the bass, as well as, attenuate the midrange frequency on two of the three settings. Overall, a boatload of tones at the turn of a couple of knobs. Get it all from jazz-metal, funk-country etc....
