Zon Sonus Custom 5

2004 Zon Sonus Custom 5
Excellent Condition, $1600 o.b.o. plus actual shipping costs

Lightly spalted and flamed Maple top and Ash body. 34" scale satin finshed neck, Bartolini soapbar pickups and 3 band 9v preamp with Mid freq pull switch on Mid control, Dunlop strap locks, Zon Protec Gig Bag. The gig bag is in great condition with the exception of one shoulder strap where the nylon cover has come loose and is frayed. The bass is in very excellent condition and even still has the plastic on the control cover. There are a couple tiny little dings that are too small to photograph with my limited talents and cheap camera.

This bass does not have a truss rod, but I've never thought it needed one. The action can be set incredibly low without fret buzz and the relief is just right. I've had a few other Zon basses, but this one sounds and plays the best of any of them. I've started to post it for sale 2 or 3 times before and always changed my mind, but I'm not playing 5 string at all any more and I hate to see a bass this nice just sitting in a case. It deserves to be played and heard.

Payment preferred by USPS Money Order but Paypal is a possibility. No trades at this time.
US sale and shipping only.

Question Neck Dive?

With the smaller body & slightly larger head stock, these always look to me as though they would be neck heavy. It this one?

Is it the narrow 17mm string spacing?

No, not at all. I suppose if you used a slippery strap it might seem that way, but with a suede backed strap it's really stable. I have a bum left shoulder so I don't live neck heavy basses, but this has been a very comfortable bass for me.

Yes, it is. It doesn't feel particularly narrow to me. I've been able to switch between this and a standard 4 string bass without any trouble.
IIRC, the only Zon 5's with 19mm string spacing are the Sonus Studio and Sonus 519 and both have a 35" scale.

I have a sound sample of a Zon custom5 with bartolini somewhere on one of my laptops. Sounds good!

Yep, to me the Sonus Customs are the best sounding of the Zons I've played. I'll certainly miss this one, but I'd rather know it's getting played regularly.
