Ahh, the toys...(from upper left) There's a Roland JV-1010 sound module, a Raven Labs three channel mixer next to it, a Yamaha g50 MIDI converter, Demeter HBP-201 preamp, JamPerson, Echoplex Digital Pro, and the DBX 160 A and QSC PLX 3402.
I have since dismantled that rack and spit into into pairs; 80lbs is a pain in the a$$. currently I am using a Repeater for looping.
About the trade...I am addicted to the midrange of Accugroove cabs for the incredible articulation and definition of bass chords. For instance, I can play f#m7 at the bottom of the neck (root, flat 7th, minor 12th voicing) and every note is DISTINCT and clear! Try it; most other cabs sounds like mud down there. It has expanded my chordal range throughout the whole of the bass. Low chords are clear, and high chords are fat! I knew I was buying the Tri-112L, literally, within three seconds of playing it. I freaked out and bought (charged) another Tri-112L three days later, and sold four cabs within a week....Including 2 EA VL-110's. VL-110's are great, but so damn heavy for their size, hard to transport, (terrible handles, but I understand why they didn't want to poke holes into the cab), and not as full sounding as the Tri-112L as a standalone. Those cabs were hard to let go... Also got rid of a EA CXL 112, older version. Now THAT was a great cab as a standalone, very efficient and cutting, but not as balanced as the Tri-112. That horn was a little too cutting and edgy; I love the soft dome tweeters of AGs. I don't miss a clacky horn at all. I never have a problem with treble response on the AGs, just boost the highs a bit (maybe more than you're used to) and you're there. Utterly sweet. I had a Bergantino 322 for a month; incredible cab for lows, low-mids, and highs (what an amazing horn that cab has) but a bit muddy (compared to the Accugrooves) in the crucial high-midrange region, and not as good for small rooms. For some players that cab is the Holy Grail (it is LOUD and FULL); but I think it falls short for my style of chordal playing. Plus, it weighs 95lbs...UGHHH!!!
Good luck trading/selling your cab! Bergantino cabs are awesome; that 12 is a punchy little cab. Definitely near the top of my list for single 12s.
Everyone is amazed at the sound of the Tri-112L stack. Tablas, bendir, bass, keyboard, guitar, whatever you put into it sounds just like the instrument, only louder.
I boost the bass and treble a bit, and boost the mids differently (semi-parametric) depending on the room. I am an EQ freak; you may have to EQ the AGs a bit more than you're used to, but the end result is a cab that sounds three times better (honest) than anything else I have heard.
If you're in Central California, I am playing a solo set at the
www.y2k6loopfest.com in Santa Cruz, CA October 22nd, 2006 Sunday, from 2:30-3pm. Come out if you can! Hear the Staccugroove. There will be an amazing, inspiring, and humbling set of live looping artists for 24 hours over two days!
This sort of turned into a Tri-112L review. Maybe I'll move it over there later.
Great to chat with all you low-enders.
