[Feeler] SWR Mr. Tone Controls EQ (a.k.a "Mister Tone")

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I acquired this rare and discontinued rackmount bass equalizer some years ago. I used it for a while about 10 years ago, and then it sat idle in my rack until now. I've since downsized my rig and this is one of the few pieces that I haven't been able to sell yet.

[UPDATE - price reduced to $350 - see below.]

It's in very good condition (at last check) but it has suffered from the usual "rack rash" from mounting and handling. I'll run a full test on it and get some photos posted shortly.

I have an SWR SM400, and am quite interested in this item. Think you might post some pix, specs?

Thanks for the responses so far. I've set a price of $400 for this EQ. I'll be taking and posting some pictures shortly. I will also see if I can find the original manual (if I still have it!) and I will include specifications.

Basically, this EQ is based on one of the concentric-knob, 3-band parametric EQ sections from the SM-900 and SM-1500 amplifiers, and extends that concept to a 9-band unit that allows pretty much full tone shaping across the entire frequency spectrum. It has an "In/Out" switch that allows the EQ section to be bypassed if desired.

Specifications

Here are the frequency ranges for the 9 EQ bands:

20 Hz to 63 Hz
40 Hz to 125 Hz
80 Hz to 250 Hz
160 Hz to 500 Hz
315 Hz to 1K Hz
630 Hz to 2K Hz
1.2K Hz to 4K Hz
2.5K Hz to 8K Hz
5K Hz to 16K Hz

Each band is controlled by a concentric potentiometer. The lower knob controls the frequency, and the upper knob selects the amount of cut (-15db) or boost (+15db) and centers on neutral (0db).

Inputs and outputs are available for RCA, 1/4" jacks, and XLR jacks. I have only tested the 1/4" jacks.

I have tested the EQ on all nine bands, and it seems to work perfectly.

Holy knobs!! I would never stop tweaking, which is why I had to simplify. Good luck and here's a free hump day bump.

These things are so cool!

I really wanted one of these back in the day when I was playing SWR gear.

These are incredible EQ's. I've had one for atleast ten years in my live rig and in my studio. Super versatile and transparent!!
