Hey Mr. Dialog - you seem very into the old Ampegs there. I've got one of these as well - from all appearances, it's the same as this - straightback, on a caster platform, same nameplate on the back, same positioning of the luggage handles, and 32-ohm CTS drivers (awww!). Best cab I've owned. Mine, however, is devoid of any tolex whatsoever. It was painted black when I bought it back in the late 80s.
Do you know if they were ever sold this way, or is this just a case of that stuff shredding over time and being eventually removed?

Those were so popular, thousands of bassist used them and dragged them continually. I've bought a couple that the tolex was is shreds. So, I recovered those in correct tolex. Amazing looks.

Tolex, shmolex! | Could be a good thing - meaning that it was good enough to be used and used and used and used. Covering then becomes a matter of tastes. I'm a purist in those matters and either repair or replace.
