SOLD!
I recently bought this head from TB'er easye. Really surprised me how few people knew about this amp - 180 loud watts in a relatively light (for a tube head) package - 45 lbs on my shipping scale. Super Twins only came as combos originally, but this one had the amplifier section installed into a tolex head box cabinet. JohnK 10 is a huge fan of these and I can see why - clean tubey tone with lots of tone shaping capabilities. Reminds me of the all-tube Eden VT300 that I used to own. I just got my Read Purity fixed, so I'm covered on the "clean tube" front (and have my Ampeg's for "dirty tube"), so it's time to pass this on. 4 ohm operation only. The amp is in mint condition and is super quiet and has JJ tubes throughout.
Here's a blurb I found on the EQ section:
With the Super Twin, an elaborate equalization system was designed that included Bass, Middle, Treble, and Presence controls, a Bright switch, and five bands of fixed-frequency EQ-(+/-5 [db?] at 100, 235, 485, 1250, and 2300 cycles per second). The Bass,Middle, and treble controls were traditional Fender circuits, but the Presence and the five-band EQ were “active”, very non-traditional for the company. The new presence control was totally unlike the earlier circuit, which had changed the negative feedback in the high frequencies but was not really EQ. The Presence on the Super Twin was a boost at 3.9 kHz – definitely equalization. The five fixed frequencies differed from the Presence in that they were able to both boost and cut. Five series resonant circuits were constructed using an inductor, a capacitor, and a special potentiometer with a center tap for each band. One leg of each pot was connected directly to the signal path. This clever circuit used none of the usual op amps normally associated with active EQ and was a fairly expensive addition (quality inductors don’t come cheap!) A foot switch could punch the EQ in or out, allowing the player two distinct tones and giving the Super Twin quasi-channel-switching abilities.

these are definitely 'sleepers', good luck with the sale. |

They really really utilize the 180watts like there's a jet engine planning on being behind you %100 of the time. We have a super twin guitar rig and one of the first solid state vintage super showman heads. Vintage fender is cool that's for sure! Bump for vintage fender on TB! |

Bump for vintage fender on TB! | i agree that they're pretty loud (especially on a guitar, which IMO are way too loud) but i wouldn't use the word 'ONLY'. they have great 'TONE, PUNCH and DYNAMICS' when used with a bass, especially thru two 15" JBL K140's. |

Do you have the original EQ footswitch? Do you have the channel switching footswitch? Can you post pictures of the internal wiring? Do you know when the amp was installed in a head case? |
