...but not so pretty on the outside.
First of all, my camera really sucks so if you want additional photos or closeups of something in particular, let me know what you want to see and I'll put them up for you.
It's a 1992 SWR SM400 Serial# 342-5400. The date is written on the transformer inside the amp itself, as you can see from the pictures.
This guy has been through some good times & bad times but was always reliable and sounded great. I am the 2nd owner, and I don't think the first owner ever kept it in a rack judging by some of the scratches on it.
I stopped using it years ago where I stored it in my parents basement in a cardboard box. That basement was a little damp, and while the amp never got wet, some of the steel screws developed rust spots

Some of the jacks in the back got a little corrosion on them too - I pulled it out of the basement and cleaned it up, sprayed some tuner lube/cleaner in a couple of the scratchy pots, and the amp works
GREAT again.
Here is, honestly, everything "wrong" with this amp - as well as everything "right" with this amp.
- There are some screws missing - 5 from the top, 1 from the front
- There's some rust spots where some of the steel screws sat on top of the aluminum top - the rust is from the screws, the amp is not rusty!
- Some of the screw holes in the top are stripped. It could be the screws, because the corrosion they suffered could have degraded the threads.
- A couple of the pots were scratchy, but some tuner cleaner seemed to remedy the situation
- All of the jacks - input, speaker, FX loop, etc. were all tested.
- The x-over and biamp in stereo mode works great!
- The original 12AX7A is long gone. I put a new GT in there after I rescued it from the basement because whatever was in there was breaking up. It sounds fine now.
It still plays great! The EQ and Aural Enhancer work and sound great, and as nice as the trip down memory lane was, I have to part with this - I just moved into a condo on the beach and I have very limited storage space.
