After putting together my Alembic/QSC rig this week I definitely don't need 3 bass amps, so the Acoustic Image is the odd man out.
This is the latest Series III model with the beefed up power stage that is rated at ">1000 watts" with a 2 ohm load (the Series I and II versions were only rated down to 4 ohm), and weighs a ridiculously light 5lbs.
These amps are very, very clean, so they reproduce the natural tone of your instrument without colouring the sound at all.
The Focus has a wealth of cool features - balanced DI with pre/post EQ switch, ground lift, effects loops with separate volume control, mute button, switchable voltage for worldwide use, notch filter for EQ'ing unusual rooms or for use with acoustic instruments.
I see at the AI website that the Focus range is now discontinued - they have rationalised their range and renamed some of their amps - the Focus 1 chassis is now the Clarus 1. Mine is in great condition, not a mark on it, and comes with the user manual and the soft carry bag, which also is unmarked.
Importantly, the company stands by it's products .... "As a general statement, during the first five years, we will repair for free or replace (at our option) any of our products if they are not functioning as they should. Beyond that, we will fix any of our products without charge no matter how old they are. Both commitments apply whether you are the first owner or the fifteenth".
