This is an Aguilar DB 659 preamp and an Aphex 661 "Expressor" compressor connected with George L cables and mounted in a custom "Roadie" case.
The Aguilar has vintage RCA tubes in it and functions perfectly. It has a couple of scratches from a previous owner (I bought it here on talkbass) on the top of the case, but no dents or dings. The front and rear are perfect and all knobs, lights, and features function as new. It sounds fantastic. You can find many reviews and comment of this preamp here on talkbass.
The Aphex is in excellent shape all around. It still has the original tube and all knobs, lights, and features function as new. You can take "Bongomania" (the talkbass compressor expert) at his word when he describes this unit as "one of the best sounding compressors ever made". (His full review here:
Aphex 661)
The case was made in N.Y. and fits the two units perfectly. You can see in the pics that I cut away a couple of parts of the back of the case to provide access to the inputs and outputs, and to the power switch on the Aguilar. The case is in excellent shape otherwise. The lid with the handle fits tightly and securely, There are even fittings on each side of the case such that a shoulder strap could be attached. I attached rubber feet to the bottom and spaced them so that they would settle into the form on top of an SKB rack case. It sits very firmly and securely and cannot be pulled off accidentally. You can see in the last picture how perfectly it lines up side to side and at the front.
This arrangement made moving my gear around much easier with the power amp in its own 2-space rack. If you are tired of schlepping around a full rack, try this. I found it to make the effort much easier. (I am guessing that this weighs 10-12 lbs.)
Lastly, the two components are connected by perfectly lengthed George L cables.
I am going to try to keep this set together as I think it provides an extremely versatile and fantastic sounding unit to be paired with any poweramp for live use, or to take, by itself, to the studio.
Oh, I've had this for several years now and love it. I am only selling because my band has down-scaled in volume to the point that I find the Walkabout combo I bought recently to be adequate for bass and I want to buy a synth.
An absolute bargain (I think) at
$825 PayPal'ed and shipped in the ConUS.
