SOLD

I've gotten questions about why I'm selling the amp and what I don't like about it. It's heavy in the 40 lb. range but I've gigged with another amp in that range so that's not why I'm selling it. I got it in trade for a bass I was selling, the idea being to raise some money. I simply have too many amps and could use the money elsewhere.

I took it to Atomic Music yesterday to put it on consignment and while there a friend and I ran it through an Eden D410XLT and heard that cab do things I'd never heard a D410XLT do. I brought it back home.

So this weekend I'll be working a little harder on my gig. I'm going to try and take this out for the first time since I've owned it (I recently got it in trade) and I'll be taking out my newly acquired Yamaha PB-1/Crown Drivecore XLS1000 setup and put both through their paces. That should be horrible.

I avoided taking the Aggie out less I become attached to it. If that happens I'll likely just hang onto to it and sell something else. Right now I have it, the Yamaha/Crown setup, an AER Basic Performer 4x8 combo, two Little Mark II's, a Thunderfunk TFB420, two Amplified Music Products BH-420's, a Gibson GB440 and some other stuff I've probably forgotten. I think I can painlessly thin the herd at this point

Trust me if you roll the Tele's into it and get yourself either a GS410 or an HS410 you'll keep the amp...

+1, but I happen to have first hand experience with mine through some Bag End Cabs (!!!!!) and have great results putting mine on top of some Accugroove Tri115Ls. The way this beast mates with hi-fi, full-range cabs is something special.

So, are you selling it or are you on the fence? I hate how cumbersome mine is and feel guilty when there are so many stupid-light options out there....until I plug it in!!! The low-end response, balance between tube spread and solid-state quickness, and the overall 3D quality it imparts to each note is something I haven't been able to get in any other amp.

Killer deal on this either way. I might have a friend of mine get ahold of you who's been looking for one after trying mine!!!

The amp is for sale otherwise I'd close the thread. Didn't think that was unclear. If no one's pulled the trigger by this weekend and I take it out and dig it, I'll sell something else. I don't mind seeing how it stacks up to the Yamaha PB-1/Crown Drivecore XLS1000 rig I just put together (haven't cranked either one of them up live yet). Should be fun.

I don't say that to put pressure on anyone, it is what it is. What I heard a couple of days ago through a cab I'm not particularly crazy about was pretty impressive. And I have a couple of very nice handcarts.

The original post sounded like you are hoping that it works out so you can keep it, but I can't imagine that it'll stick around long at that price. KILLER deal. Good luck on the sale!

Actually the second post was just answering several questions I've gotten about it. What don't I like about it, why am I selling it, etc. No offense but those are questions I don't ask because ultimately they make no difference to me if it's something I'm interested in. And you don't have to dislike something to sell it.

So I'm saying if I get "stuck" with it I'm okay with that, I'll try to sell something else. And if I actually get a chance to gig with it, that's a possibility. At this point I don't really know what I'll be missing and ignorance is bliss.

I agree, it is a killer deal but in this economy all bets are off. It's pretty funny when someone's selling a $5k bass and someone else pipes in that they can believe it's still for sale after a while. I CAN. It's alot of money for most people. So is the pricerange these amps fall in, I understand that.

Thanks.

Took both rigs out this weekend and they both worked great. Ran a couple of basses through a Boss GT-10B into either the DB 750 or the Yamaha PB-1/Crown Drivecore XLS1000 out to a first gen SWR Triad and out to the house. Big outdoor wedding last night... interesting choice for November but they spent a ton of money and it was very comfortable.

I got very similar results. I go for a big clean sound and both rigs sounded massive. I easily got way louder than I needed with both setups and the soundman dug both of them (didn't need much in the house). As I understand it the DB can get dirty but it's something I don't need so I'll keep the Yammie/Crown setup for anytime I want overkill and let the DB go.

Sold. I'll leave it open for a bit in case anyone has questions about the comparison.

Apparently you didn't care for my explanation as to why I left it open.

LOL. Thanks for the comic relief. Next time, less scrolling, more reading.

When the amp sold, I put "sold" at the bottom of the FIRST post in bolded caps which inexplicably missed your gleaning. It was edited long before you posted. All of the words are important, I'd suggest simply reading them next time. In the meantime I'll edit the thread again and make the word bigger and bright red so people like you might have a better chance of not missing what's clearly right in front of you. Cool?

The DB750 sounded as BIG as I expected from everything I'd heard over the years. It's a pretty intoxicating thing to have that much size to the sound, even at lower volumes it was extremely full but never boomy. The low end sounded effortless and if you've ever heard an amp that sounded like it was putting the low B and E out there but not overly happy about it you'll probably know what I mean. It reacted to my attack instantly, technique changes came through loud and clear.

The one area where I heard a difference was with aggressive slapping. I wouldn't give the Yamaha/Crown setup a huge edge but there was a noticeable difference to me. Not that I couldn't be perfectly happy with the DB, popping the G string and having it hit you that hard is fun live.

The rest of the musicians on the hit dug both setups equally. They thought they sounded great. They were both operating in the kick drum dynamics range so throwing staccato low end blips out in the room was a hoot... they'd stop and start instantaneously, like a well damped kick drum that was pitch variable. And as loud as I could possibly want it while still sitting in the mix.

So the Aggie is gone and as cool as it was, for my gig needs the Yamaha/Crown setup not only fits the bill, it knocks it out of the park into the river beyond the stadium. Such an abundance of power on tap is easily overkilll but heck... it's fun too.
