Alembic F-1X

For Sale: The Alembic F-1X Tube Preamp. I chose this model after it won a shootout in BP magazine back around '95.

It has a great tube sound, yet it conveniently uses just a single 12AX7. The tone circuit is based on the "classic Fender stack" - the bass & treble knobs boost & the mid knob cuts. The controls interact quite a bit, which takes some getting used to. Coupled with a good power amp, this thing provides a massive, wooly low end that I have never been able to replicate with an all solid state signal path. It provides a good strong output for driving a power amp.

The front panel DI is very handy. There's also a crossover for bi-amping if that's your bag. The build quality on this is solid.

This pre has spent its entire life in a rack and it spent the last 8 years not being played. I just fired it up & everything is working good. The only scratches are on the top, bottom & very little around the rack ear holes. (washers were always used).

I'm asking $425 shipped to the lower 48. Paypal preferred.

Thanks for looking!

Bump for a great unit. Recently did some recording and tested my Dark Starred p-bass through the F-1X, UA610, Tone Hammer and Hamptone preamp. All sounded good, but the F-1X won.

I concur with everything in the OP. I regret selling mine (but you know how messed-up that last winter was ).

I might also regret bumping this thread, because this would be an excellent opportunity for me to make things right.
