all tube 200 watt 70's Fender Studio Bass Combo!

Sign in to disble this ad

I'm selling my late 70s Fender Studio Bass Amp. Imagine making a combo out of a slightly shallower TL606 cab and a Fender Showman, and you're close! The amp is all tube---six 6l6gc's in the power section. The amp has been serviced in the last couple of weeks, and I had the tech make a couple of minor modifications. He biased the power tubes to run a little hotter, and he added a 12ax7 (rather than a 12au7) in the active EQ section to get a little more gain. There is the usual volume/mid/bass/treble/ and presence controls, as well as a footswitchable active tube driven EQ (hence the 12ax7). The amp has already been recapped, and the power tubes have plenty of life left in them, so this amp will be ready to go out of the box. I had the aforementioned modifications done simply because the amp would stay clean all the way up to 10, and the pickups in my bass aren't super hot. There is just simply more of that great tube overdrive where you want it.

The speaker is in great shape. It is a 200 watt EV, which we all love. I often disconnect the amp from the speaker and plug a TS50b into the cab, since I don't have another 8 ohm cab lying around. If you do some research on this amp, you'll find that people like cutting the cabinet and making a seperate head/cab configuration out of the thing. You'll also read about people replacing the EV with JBLs. This amp has not been subject to any of that.

Here are the technical specs.

Full disclosure! I bought the amp from the guy who runs Trutone Cabinets out of Louisiana. At some point before I bought the amp it was necessary to do a repair on the cabinet, which he did a great job of. You can only tell because of hair line tears on the tolex along the top corners. I have taken plenty of pics so I'll pm them to you if you'd like to see it. Also handles were added to each side, which you will be thankful for. The amp does not include casters, but it is a little top heavy, so you are better off using a dolly if you don't have someone to help you carry it.

Price is $675 plus shipping. I am willing to wiggle a bit on the price, but not by a whole lot. I always have amps professionally packed and send them via UPS, so shipping may be a bit expensive, but if its much over $100 I'll just cover the rest. In order to protect you and me, I will only accept paypal.

The only trades I'm interested in are:

Mesa Diesel 1x15 cabinets + a little cash
Traynor YBA3
Ampeg Co. era V4 set up w/ 6550s
Malekko Bassmaster + cash
Crowther Audio Prunes and Custard + cash

Got more pics of the speaker? I've never seen an EV with a chrome dustcap like that.
