I've had the co-ax ten out, and the HF driver just unscrews from the back as was mentioned. I have a similar speaker that's half size, with one coax 10 and one ELF 10 in one very small box. I actually bought it to scavange the coax and crossover for my Q10B.
Sorry, I have no idea what I'd ask for those, but a DIY ELF 6x10 subwoofer sounds interesting!!

| | | | Sorry guys -- life was beyond busy the last few days. I FOUND the mystery receipt & holy crap! I paid more than I thought for those drivers.
It says: Qty (2), Part #2417H, JBL Screw-on driver. Labor $20 + $180 x 2 = $400 + tx.
Geeze, considering I was going to list these on Craigslist for a $600 seems low considering I paid $800 originally + $400 for the drivers and at least $150 for the cables. But whatever at this point. I just want to sell them! Someone buy them please -- off to Craigslist i go.

I've never seen a setup like this, but I used to play through a a bad end 210 cab and a bag end 210 elf sub and I LOVED it. Don't know why I got rid of it, but I felt the need for an 18 (which I also love!)
I'm guessing that in your 810 config, 4 are full range, and 4 are subs?
If I could drive to get these I'd take them in a heartbeat for $600!
Do you ever play bass through them, or just home theater stuff?

The wife wants these gone like a month ago! Please, just buy them! Probably best to email me since I don't frequent here too often. Cool site, but I'm not a musician (ya think?)
PS -- not only a LOWER price but I'm tossing in the RANE EQ. If I can't sell for $500 then I'll just keep them -- my son asked me about playing the bass guitar yesterday of all things! Maybe it's a sign? I'm sure mom would love it if I move these into his room - then I'd have to buy whatever it takes to make them run w/a guitar...second thought, I should just sell them.

Seriously, Seattle, where are you!!!
Someone needs to pick this rig up! A Bag End 810!!!! It would be a monster even if it wasn't 3/4 subwoofer.
The ELF subs (with this M2 integrator) give studio flat response down to 18Hz!!!
I've had a 210 elf sub before, it's amazing!
If you are worried that it will be too much, don't! The beauty of the elf sub is that they sound just as great playing them very very quietly.

| | | | Geeze, I spaced and didn't actually log-into my Craigslist account before putting up the add a couple weeks ago so it doesn't show up for me to re-list. When I updated it w/lower price etc the other day, posted the link above it worked fine. Now it shows up as expired. Sorry. I'll try to fix it later. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2008 Location: 20106 | | | info from Bag End So these cabs have me thinking about them all the time. I doubt I'll ever own them because they are so far away, but someone should give them a good home.
Anyway, I contacted Bag End about them and found out some info.
This from the man himself, Mr Know It All, Dan Sarceno: They are the discontinued Q10WEX-D.
Only a few were made back in the early 1990's.
They were indeed designed for bass guitar and yes, the balance between subs and mids/highs is better than the D10X/D10E combination.
As you know, each consists of three ELF/Infra subwoofers and one coax system. The subs are wired in parallel for a 3 ohm load and the coax is 8 ohms. The subs can handle a total of 600 watts continuous sine wave and the coax is capable of 200 watts.
Like all ELF/Infra subwoofer systems, an ELF or Infra processor is required for the proper deep bass response and the system would have to be bi-amped.
Best regards,
Dan Saraceno

Then a followup email about how to best power it: Ideally yes, a preamp and separate amps is the best way to drive a pair of Q10WEX-D's. You could possibly do it with a head that had preamp outs and amplifier ins. Perhaps, even an effects loop could work.
A couple of possibilities are:
1) Take a send from the head (preamp out, effects send, etc.) and connect it to one of the ELF/Infra processor inputs, let's say the Left. Then, connect the ELF/Infra Sum Out to the external amp driving the ELF sections of the Q10WEX-D. Connect the processor Left Hi-Pass output to the return of the head (amp in, effects return?). Use the head to power the coax speakers.
2) Run the coax sections full range and use a send from the head to drive the subs only. Connect the send to either input on the processor. Connect the ELF/Infra Sum Out to the external amp driving the subs. Drive the coax sections from the head directly. This may not yield flat response from the system, but it will probably be very close.
The WEX was a unique design. I'm not certain why it never took off. Maybe, a narrow column form factor wasn't typical or practical. You probably wouldn't want to put a rack on top of it. Also, the 3 ohm load may have scared some people. Then, there is the fact we offered a 2x10 coax (D10BX-D) and separate ELF 1x18 (S18E), which stacked nicely and were modular. They also had more typical impedance ratings.
Best regards,
Dan Saraceno

| | | When I had these up and running with my surround system and James Bond (Tomorrow Never Dies opening scene) blasting away, it literally rattled my insides and I LOVED IT! Now you're making me think I should keep them! Ugh. But they will probably end up in VA.
Thank you for all the research and information. |

Very interesting combination with these..after chatting back and for with a guy at Bagend, I may swap out 2 of the "sub" drivers out for the "standard" Bagend 10's, to get the impedance a bit more manageable for me, also to balance out the somewhat bass-heavy response that keeps vibrating items off of shelves upstairs in the rehersal space..with the ELF processor, the low end is a little frightening, and can make you a little queezy after a while.. |
